BETCRIS NHL betting odds Blackhawks at Blues

The St. Louis Blues are in a mad scramble to make the playoffs in the Western Conference as the regular season winds down. They have to leapfrog one of a few teams within striking distance and a win next time out against the Chicago Blackhawks is imperative as there are only a few contests left.

The Blues are the superior team and get the home ice advantage so they will be expected to come away with the victory. St. Louis doesn’t necessarily care if it only wins by one goal but absolutely has to get the job done and pick up a pair of points in NHL hockey betting.

The Blackhawks have gone through a disappointing year and have been eliminated from the playoffs so they are just playing out the string at this point. They will be in the spoiler role against the rival Blues.

Don't miss the hardwood action from the Scottrade Center at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday, April 4, 2018. Catch every moment of the game live on NBC Sports Net.

Odds Analysis

The Blues have gone 43-30-6 on the season for 92 points. St. Louis has gone 24-15 against the spread at home this year. The Blues have failed to cover in two straight games.

The Blackhawks are just 32-37-10 on the year, accumulating only 74 points. Chicago is just 14-20-5 against the spread on the road and has not done a good job paying out for those bettors who have consistently backed this underachieving squad.

Key Stat

9. That’s the Blues’ current seed in the West, which isn’t a good sign when only eight teams make the playoffs. However, St. Louis is within one point of the Colorado Avalanche, within three points of the Anaheim Ducks and within four points of the Los Angeles Kings with three games remaining on their schedule.

The Blues have played one fewer game than Colorado so that is the team that it should have squarely in its crosshairs down the stretch. St. Louis has lost three straight to put itself in a precarious position but can still wrap up a playoff berth with strong play in the final three games.

St. Louis’ defense has led the way all year and it will look to shut down the Blackhawks in this contest.

Player To Watch

Patrick Kane -- If the Blackhawks are able to pull off the upset, their star right winger may be the reason why. Kane has scored 27 goals and added 47 assists on the season for a team-leading 74 points. He has a goal in each of the team’s past two wins but didn’t score in any of Chicago’s three most recent losses, so his play can often mirror that of the team.

While the scoring numbers are solid, Kane is a career-worst minus-19 when on the ice and hopes to contribute positively in this matchup.

The Blues will be keeping a close eye on Kane in order to keep him in check. If that happens, St. Louis will be heavily favored to win this game.

The Blues need this game badly, and should be able to deliver. St. Louis is going to push the teams ahead of it down the stretch and hope to claim a playoff berth. The Blackhawks are simply waiting for the offseason to come after a poor year and won’t have the requisite intensity tio pull off the upset.

It remains to be seen if St. Louis can secure a playoff spot but its chances will improve with a victory in this regular season NHL betting contest. Consider the “under” in this game as it could be a low-scoring affair.

NHL Odds: Blues 2, Blackhawks 1
