One of the top turf races of the year is the Arlington Million with the winning horse getting an automatic entry into the $4 Million Dollar Longines Breeders’ Cup Turf race at Churchill Downs in early November. The 36th running of the Arlington Million takes place on Saturday and can be seen on NBCSN.
A field of 11 was drawn into this race, but only 10 horses are expected to go to the post, as Divisidero is expected to run in the Fourstardave at Saratoga on Saturday. Let’s look at Saturday’s Arlington Million and horse racing picks.

11 Horse: Oscar Performance / Jockey :J. Ortiz / Trainer: B Lynch / Odds: 3-1
Oscar Performance is listed as the 3-1 morning line favorite. The horse won the Secretariat and is trying to become just the fifth horse in history to win the Secretariat and the Arlington Million. Oscar Performance has been a horse that likes to get to the early lead and he should have no problem doing that from the outside post in this race.
Robert Bruce is the second choice at odds of 9-2. The horse is trained by Chad Brown who won the Arlington Million last year. Robert Bruce was unbeaten until running into trouble in the Manhattan Handicap. Robert Bruce won his first seven starts and it is hard to fault the horse for his last race as he was bumped in the stretch. Brown also trains Almanaar who won a couple of Group 3 races in France in 2016. The horse looked good in winning on the Belmont turf in June.
Money Multiplier is another Brown trained horse. He lost by a half length last time out in the Grade 1 United Nations at Monmouth in June. The 6-year old is the son of Looking at Lucky.
Deauville is trained by Aidan O’Brien who is known for trying his luck in the U.S. with horses. The horse has been a money burner as a favorite and in 21 career starts has just four wins.
Spring Quality is coming of a win in the Manhattan and could be a serious threat. He has Hall of Fame jockey Edgar Prado in the irons.
The other five horses are all longshots. Perhaps Century Dream can make a little noise, but it is hard to give much of a chance to Circus Couture, Catcho En Die and Twenty Four Seven. It is worth noting, however, that Catcho En Die will have Arlington’s current leading rider Jose Valdivia, Jr. in the irons.
Arlington Million Picks
It is rare when there is much value in taking a favorite but there may be some on Oscar Performance. The horse looks to be the best one in this race and if we can get him at odds of 3-1 he is worth a play. A quinella is also worth considering with Robert Bruce, as the horse is coming off a close loss and Spring Quality is very capable of winning this race at odds of 8-1. Putting all three horses in an exacta-box may be the best choice for Saturday’s race.
The Arlington Million takes place on Saturday, August 11 at Arlington Racecourse with a start time of 7:10 pm Eastern and can be seen on NBCSN.
