MLB National League - Baseball Betting Online

Baseball Betting Online: Last year the Minnesota Twins caught everyone napping as they won their first MLB American League Central Division title since 2010 and ended the three-year reign of the Cleveland Indians. It was the best regular season for the Twins since 1965.

This year the Twins will not be granted the element of surprise. Instead, they are the public choice to win the division for a second consecutive MLB season. However, bargain hunters looking for capable teams at better prices have taken fliers on the Chicago White Sox and the Cleveland Indians. Meanwhile, the Kansas City Royals and Detroit Tigers have little to offer a skeptical wagering public.

American League Central Betting Odds Analysis

As usual, futures betting on the American League Central, like for all sports, is based a great deal on last year instead of what lies ahead. Minnesota’s 101 wins are hard to ignore. But will also be difficult to duplicate. Historically the last time the Twins reached the 100-win mark was 1965.

This year they will also be in the position of being the hunted instead of the hunter. Cleveland is the “old money” team of the division as a three-time Central Division champion until last year. Chicago had the most intriguing offseason of the group. Nobody is taking Kansas City or Detroit seriously nor should they.

Baseball Odds to Win 2020 American League Central Division:

Which MLB Team to win the National League West Division?
Chicago White Sox +300
Cleveland Indians +240
Detroit Tigers +10000
Kansas City Royals +7500
Minnesota Twins -134

Minnesota Twins

Josh Donaldson arrives from Atlanta and will give an immediate boost to an already impressive lineup. Donaldson belted 33 doubles, 37 home runs, and 94 runs batted in with 96 runs scored for 2019. He is a three-time All-Star and 2015 American League Most Valuable Player.

Designated Hitter Nelson Cruz is a six-time All-Star and was an American League Silver Slugger for the third time in his career in 2019. Cruz hit 41 home runs with 108 runs batted in last year.

Minnesota’s pitching was decent but hardly dominant which is a cause for pause with many gamblers.

Cleveland Indians

Forgotten in the hype about Minnesota is the fact that Cleveland is coming off a 93-win season. It was the fourth straight year that they won at least that many games.

Number one starter Shane Bieber gives the Indians a foundation of a good starting rotation. Bieber was 15-8 with a 3.28 earned run average last year. He struck out 259 batters in 214.1 innings of work.

Third baseman Jose Ramirez is a two-time All-Star and a two-time Silver-Slugger award winner. He was limited to 129 games in 2019 and still managed 33 doubles, 23 home runs, and 83 runs batted in.

Right fielder Franmil Reyes adds pop as shown with his 37 home runs and 81 runs batted in last year.

Chicago White Sox

The White Sox have gone all-in for 2020 after a playoff drought that extends back to the 2008 season. Acquired this offseason were SP Dallas Keuchel, C Yasmani Grandal, 1B/DH Edwin Encarnacion, and OF Nomar Mazara. It was acclaimed as the best offseason in MLB and enhances an already promising young roster. Grandal was an All-Star for Milwaukee last year and expected to handle the cleanup role.

In this situation, we have a classic and capable beaten favorite in the Cleveland Indians that was ambushed last year. Cleveland manager Terry Francona is an elite level winner and an asset in his own right.

MLB American League East Division

The public has spoken loud and clear that the New York Yankees are the class of the American League East. Indeed, the Bronx Bombers are a heavy online baseball wagering favorite to take the crown. Certainly, the Yankees are the obvious choice. And that is exactly what bothers many handicappers, especially in this COVID-19 shortened 60-game schedule.

Bargain hunters are looking long and hard at two alternatives. The Tampa Bay Rays have postseason bona fides and credibility. While the Boston Red Sox could be underrated as an MLB team that still has potential but a damaged offseason reputation. As for the Toronto Blue Jays and Baltimore Orioles, the brief 60-game season may be their only hope of overcoming long-shot status.

American League East Betting Odds Analysis

With back to back 100-win seasons, the Yankees bring considerable credibility. Add in their incomparable history, megabucks payroll, and worldwide brand and you get an MLB Baseball behemoth. By contrast, the Rays are remembered by a fickle public for making the 2019 postseason as the Red Sox are still considered big money but a second-tier contender. Toronto and Baltimore are correctly seen as lighting a match to money.

New York Yankees

At the onset of the arrival of superstar pitcher Gerrit Cole from the Astros did Baseball today hype explode like a volcano. Gamblers flocked to the futures board for action on the Yankees. Perhaps a more sober view should be taken. Sluggers Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton continue to battle injury issues.

And Cole tops a starting rotation that was exposed as not ready for prime time in the American League Championship Series last year. When Cole is the only dominant pitcher in a 60-game schedule, that does not offer an immediate promise of a smooth ride.

Tampa Bay Rays

The fact remains that despite their recent success the Rays remain one of the lowest revenues and payroll teams in Major League Baseball. The gambling public is fully aware of that and many of them see Tampa Bay as an overachiever. The 60-game shortened season argument cuts both ways for the Rays. Debate rages as to whether or not it’s positive or negative. One thing that is certain is that Tampa Bay can’t match the Yankees lineup or bullpen.

Boston Red Sox

When the Red Sox sent Mookie Betts packing to the Los Angeles Dodgers fans and gamblers went ballistic. To them, it was the type of move that the Kansas City Royals or Miami Marlins would make. Boston does not surrender its best players for lesser talent in trades was the theory.

And yet in spite of the trade, the fact remains that the Red Sox still has the fifth-highest payroll in the game. Another potential advantage with the Baseball odds is new manager Ron Roenicke, who had a highly successful run with the Milwaukee Brewers and will serve as a calming professional influence.

In this situation, we have an expensive Yankees team lacking depth in its rotation facing the wild card of a shortened season. Thus, making the big lay borders on ludicrous. By contrast, Boston makes a lot of sense. They still have a solid core led by J.D. Martinez and the ability to beat anyone on a given day. Best of all the price is right!
