Matt Harvey has become a reclamation project, but the veteran right-hander is giving reason to think he may not be done. The former Mets star was traded to the Reds in May after a couple years worth of injuries and ineffectiveness. His ERA was ugly earlier this year but Harvey has found a groove of late as he aims to return to an above average hurler.
Harvey will have a tough matchup next time out when he faces off against the Chicago Cubs on Saturday.
We'll have MLB baseball odds at Betcris available for every game of the 2018 MLB season.
The Cubs are in the hunt for the National League Central title once again but are currently trailing the surprising Milwaukee Brewers. Chicago needs to win games like this against inferior foes and despite Harvey’s resurrection the Cubs will enter this game as the favorites. They have the better team and the home field advantage so it could be by a decent spread in MLB gambling.
The MLB Baseball contest will be held at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois. The game will take place on Saturday, July 7th, 2018, at 1:20 p.m. ET.
The Cubs have a record of 49-35 on the season and have gone an impressive 26-14 at home on the year. Chicago has a run-differential of plus-104, which is the best in the National League.
The Reds have been playing better baseball of late but are still only 38-49 on the year. Cincinnati is in the midst of a rebuild but its offense has been solid thus far and will try to lead the way in a return to relevance. The Reds are 17-23 on the road this season and would love to pull the upset but it won’t be easy.
The scoring total could be reasonably high as both teams have solid offenses.
Harvey is 4-5 with a 4.91 ERA on the season with a 1.25 WHIP. He has dropped his ERA more than a full run in his past three starts. During that stretch, Harvey has only allowed three earned runs in 18.1 innings pitched. He was great last time out, throwing 5.2 innings of two-hit, shutout ball. Harvey struck out six in the contest without walking a batter and could have done even better if a rain delay didn’t force him out of the game prematurely. Harvey would love to keep up his hot streak but will certainly be challenged by the Cubs, who have the most runs scored in the National League this season with 430.
Chicago is projected to counter with journeyman right-hander Tyler Chatwood. He is 4-5 this year with a 4.54 ERA. Chatwood was torched by the Twins last time out, giving up seven runs in five innings. He has a very poor strikeout-to-walk ratio and could be in danger of getting roughed up as he has been lucky in many starts this year.
6. That’s the number of wins in a row for the Cubs, who have started to turn it on of late. The team is among the best in the National League but needs to win the division in order to avoid playing in the one-game Wild Card matchup.
Chicago has the talent to push for another World Series banner and is showing recent signs of dominance. An easy win over the Reds would be another forward step.

It’s hard to know how this game is going to go because Harvey is such a wild card. He has always had impressive stuff and has the ability to shut down the powerful Cubs lineup if he is on. However, look for Chicago to break through and get to Harvey. The Reds are going to hit well themselves so this should be an entertaining, back-and-forth affair. In the end it will be the Cubs who come away with an exciting victory on a walk-off in extra innings in MLB wagering.
MLB ATS Pick: Chicago Cubs 7, Cincinnati Reds 6
