The New York Mets brought a whole new meaning to the term April Fool’s when they posted a 15-9 mark to start the year and had fans thinking they were the second coming of the 1969 Miracle Mets. New manager Mickey Callaway was being hailed as a savior and general manager Sandy Alderson was touted
As having fixed the many problems that sent the Mets into free fall last year. But reality simply took a month to finally arrive. Once the month of May hit the Mets were put back into their place. A six-game winning streak reminded all why they are the worst team in the National League East.

Meet the Mets
New York has reached the distinction of being lower than the lowest. The low budget Miami Marlins, who don’t even pretend at trying to be competitive, currently hold the fourth-place spot in the NL East with the Mets wallowing in the basement. The Mets have a record of 39-55 and are 20-23 on the road. Few teams have lost as much money this year than New York as evidenced by their -1667 units. In their last 10 games the Mets have dropped six with six of those games also going under the total.
Miserable Mets Metrics
The Mets are one of the worst run producing teams in Major League Baseball with a ranking of 26th. At the plate they are simply bad with MLB rankings of 29th for batting average, 26th for OPS, and 23rd for home runs. The plodding Mets rank 24th for stolen bases. Offensively there is little to cling too. On the hill it’s not much better as they rank 18th for staff earned run average with a hopeless bullpen that ranks 26th in the big leagues.
Yankees Chase Bosox
The Yankees provide a stark contrast to the Mets despite also having a new manager in Aaron Boone. New York is 62-33 but is 3.5 games behind the Boston Red Sox in the American League East. As “public” as the Yankees are with the gambling community they remain one of the most profitable teams on the board at +852 units. At Yankee Stadium the Bronx Bombers are 33-13 to rate one of the top home field advantages in the game. New York has won six of their last ten games with just one of their last seven games going under the total.
A Complete Team
The Yankees rank second in MLB for run production and second for staff earned run average. The Bronx Bombers have hit the most home runs in the big leagues and rank second for OPS. Pinstripe pitchers have struck out the third most batters in baseball while compiling a second-best WHIP.
Perhaps the only thing the Mets have going for them is right hand starter Jacob deGrom. His record is 5-4 with an impressive 1.68 ERA and 0.97 WHIP. Right hander Masahiro Tanaka will get the start for the Yankees and he has a record of 7-2 with a 4.54 ERA. Tanaka has something that deGrom lacks in both team run support and the top ranked bullpen in all of baseball.
You be the Judge
Yankee right fielder Aaron Judge has been the marquee man for the Bronx Bombers with 25 home runs, 60 runs batted in, 66 runs scored and an OPS of .937. Judge homered in the Tuesday’s All-Star Game.
