With high anticipation, the Home Run Derby and the All-Star Game are back. After a year without any of the events on the MLB calendar, baseball fans can sure be happy to see them once again on their edition for July.
In addition, this season's Home Run Derby will take place at Denver's Coors Field with certain long-batting specialists including Shohei Ohtani, Joey Gallo, and Pete Alonso as highlights on the field. This certainly leaves expectations quite high for both events.
The MLB Derby Is on For Monday Night
The action is set to begin when New York Mets star Pete Alonso will step onto the field. On Monday night, Alonso might just pull in his third straight win of the Derby. The exhibition event will lead up to Tuesday's 2022 MLB All-Star Game and is set to feature eight of the most powerful hitters in Major League Baseball.
Alonso is the number two seed behind Philadelphia's Kyle Schwarber. Alonso is all set to face the Atlanta Braves star Ronald Acuña, who is now the number seven overall seed. Schwarber will now prepare to make the most against Cardinals´ Albert Pujols on the field as well.
The other matchups will be former Dodgers shortstop and current Texas Ranger Corey Seager against Seattle Mariners rookie Julio Rodriguez and Cleveland Guardians star Jose Ramirez against the Nationals' Juan Soto.
Everything is Set for the All-Star Game
Tuesday, July 19, we will enjoy a new edition of the MLB All-Star Game when the National League hosts the American League at Dodger Stadium, home of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Although in recent seasons the exhibition game has received some criticism for the lack of emotion it produces in fans. it has been maintained over time and always ends up generating a lot of expectation in many of the players.
Before their eight-game losing streak against the Americans, the National League dominated the All-Star Game with a 43-38-2 record. For this reason, it is of the utmost urgency for the National League to return to the path of victory and try to use the young players in their favor.
Playing again at home, the key for National League will be to keep the rival bats quiet, those that have made at least four runs in six of their eight wins. For this, they must go to Sandy Alcantara, the leader in the effectiveness of all the Major Leagues, as well as Tony Gonsolin and Corbin Burnes.
However, if they manage to keep the opposing woods off, the problem is that they can produce enough runs to gain the advantage. Unfortunately for the fans of the National League, the losing streak might continue.
While both teams are full of star players and their pitching teams look fairly even, the American League's offense is far superior to that of the National League. That has been the key in previous editions, and it might be again in the match at Dodger Stadium.
