The 2020 CEBL season will include a new team, as the Ottawa BlackJacks begin play. The BlackJacks are the first expansion team for the CEBL, as the league goes from six teams to seven teams. The BlackJacks could do better than most expansion teams, as there is not much separating the talent level between the seven teams in the CEBL. More
The Hamilton Honey Badgers proved last season that the regular season is almost meaningless in the CEBL as long as you do enough to make the playoffs. The Honey Badgers finished 10-10 and in fourth place a year ago, but they upset the regular season league champion, the Niagara River Lions in the playoff semifinals, winning 104-103. More
The Guelph Nighthawks head into the 2020 CEBL season looking to improve upon last season’s 6-14 record. The Nighthawks brought back all of their top players including Olu Famutimi who averaged 15 points per game last season. Guelph looks to be better prepared for their second season and continuity is a big reason why. More
The Fraser Valley Bandits had a tough inaugural season in the Canadian Elite Basketball League, as they won just four games and finished in last place a year ago. The Bandits went 4-16 and finished six games behind Hamilton for the last playoff spot. More
The Edmonton Stingers had the second-best record in the CEBL last season, but their regular season success didn’t translate into playoff success, as Edmonton was beaten in the semifinals by the Saskatchewan Rattlers. More
Pro basketball is very popular in Ontario, Canada with four teams from the Canadian Elite Basketball League hailing from Ontario. The CEBL will be the first pro sports league in Canada to return to action since the coronavirus, as the seven teams in the league will play a playoff-type tournament to determine the 2020 champion. The players will return in mid-July for training camp and games will begin on July 25. The games will take place at the Meridian Center in St. Catharines, Ontario with all seven teams having a chance to win the title.
