Canadian Basketball CEBL Niagara River Lions

The Niagara River Lions had the best record in the regular season a year ago in the CEBL, but that record meant nothing, as the River Lions were bounced out of the playoffs, losing to Hamilton in the semifinals. What can we expect out of Niagara in 2020?

Will the River Lions be able to match their regular season record of a year ago? Let’s look at the River Lions, some of the changes they have made, and the 2020 Niagara River Lions schedule.

2020 Niagara River Lions

The River Lions blitzed through the regular season a year ago winning 15 of their 20 games, but they were shocked in the semifinals of the playoffs, losing 104-103 to Hamilton. The regular CEBL season rankings meant nothing, as the top two teams, Niagara and Edmonton both lost in the semifinals. Niagara was a very good team at home going 8-2 and they were solid on the road, going 7-3. The River Lions had two first team All-Stars last season in Samuel Muldrow and Guiallaume Boucard and they had one second team All-Star in Trae Bell-Haynes.

The River Lions will be bringing back reigning CEBL Canadian Basketball Player of the Year, Guillaume Boucard who will be returning for his third season with the team. He led the River Lions last season in points per game at 16.1 and in minutes played at 31 per contest. “We are thrilled to have the reigning Canadian POY back for his third season with River Lions,” said Head Coach & General Manager, Victor Raso on the team’s website.

“Guillaume plays the game of basketball with an intensity and passion that we, along with our great fans, have grown to love and appreciate. We are expecting G to continue where he left off last year, and continue to lead us on our journey to a CEBL Championship.”

The River Lions also are bringing back Trae Bell-Haynes who averaged 12.7 points and 4 assists per game last season. “I’m thrilled to have Trae back with us this summer. He’s one of the best point guards in Canada and he’s a phenomenal young man,” said Raso.

Niagara also is bringing back Dorian Pinson who led the team in rebounds at 7.6 per game last season and he also led the team in assists per game at 4.3.

Niagara also signed Ryan Ejim who averaged 11.5 points and 7.6 rebounds last season for the Saskatchewan Rattlers. "I'm looking forward to competing for a championship with my former coach and teammate Victor Raso.” Ejim said to the media, “I'm also excited to get to live in the Niagara Region and be closer to home this summer.”

Niagara also signed Tyrone Watson for this season. He was drafted in the fourth round last season but didn’t play due to injury. He averaged 10.3 points for New Mexico State in his senior season. “I'm excited to finally be suiting up with the River Lions for the 2020 season as unfortunately last summer I was unable to play. I'm looking forward to helping the team get to the finals this year", said Watson.
