New Orleans Pelicans vs Toronto Raptors Live Betting

Both the New Orleans Pelicans and Toronto Raptors saw their biggest names bolt for the bright lights of Los Angeles, but neither of these teams are giving up on the 2019-2020 season just year. The Raptors are coming off a championships season and still have a solid group while the Pelicans are a much deeper team now than at any point in Anthony Davis’ tenure. Both teams could still be playing in May, but for now, they’ll try to get off to a good start against each other here in October.

The Raptors won the NBA championship this past season, but the celebration was short-lived as Kawhi Leonard quickly jumped ship, heading to Los Angeles to join the Clippers. Danny Green then followed to the same city, though as a member of the Lakers.

Toronto replaced its two big forwards on the roster with Stanley Johnson and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, but the two are more reserve, role-playing forwards rather than key contributors, leaving it up to Marc Gasol and Pascal Siakam to become key playmakers.

Gasol saw his usage and playing time drop dramatically last season, but it’ll be back up starting on Tuesday as he becomes a key hug for this team in the frontcourt.

Despite the changes, this is still a strong team, particularly if Siakam can improve further after a 16.9 PPG season. He was a big outside shooter in the postseason which went a big under-the-radar thanks to Leonard stealing the show.

The Raptors were 17-5 without Leonard last season though they did still have Green in those games and most came against teams that failed to make the playoffs. Still, it’s an encouraging record for the Raptors chances on Tuesday.

As for the Pelicans, New Orleans will miss Davis, but the trade brought in several key pieces including Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, and Josh Hart. In addition to those three, J.J. Redick and Derrick Favors were added to bring some veteran leadership while Zion Williamson was added via the draft as the team’s franchise player.

Those newcomers completely overhaul what was a flawed roster with a lot of young potential along with some solid veterans to help lead the way. Meanwhile, the team still also has Jrue Holiday, perhaps one of the NBA’s most underrated players. He’ll take on a bigger role as Williamson learns and grows at the professional level and the rest of the roster looks to meld together.

We will likely see some hiccups on Tuesday from this young and rebuilt team as they try to form a cohesive unit. Still, this is a solid team that matches up well against Toronto provided everyone can gel together. If the preseason is any indication, things are looking up for the Pelicans who won their first four preseason contests. Williamson has led the team in scoring each of the last three as he adapts to the professional game.

On the other side, the Raptors haven’t been quite as successful in their preseason games, dropping two of the three they’ve played including a loss to the Bulls at home. New Orleans beat the Bulls in Chicago earlier this preseason.

Zion has been a true bright spot in the Pelicans’ preseason and looks more than ready to take on a big role for New Orleans in his rookie campaign. He’s got a good crop of talent around him, too. The biggest question about the Pelicans was how quickly this team could come together with so many new pieces coming from free agency, the trade with the Lakers, and out of the draft. If the preseason is any indication, it was a quick adjustment.

There will be some issues in this regular season opener, but the Pelicans look like a solid—and sneaky—young team. Look for New Orleans to steal a win in this one on the road against the reigning NBA champions. Like the Pelicans, the Raptors also moved on from their best player for a year ago, but their roster is otherwise much the same.

In the end, look for the Pelicans to ride their strong preseason to a win in their regular season opener on the road against the defending champions. There will be bumps in the road, but New Orleans will come out strong on Tuesday.
