Entering the last week of Stage One, we’ve seen plenty of exciting Overwatch action. New York, London, and Seoul have been dominant like we expected, but heading into the last week of the season no team has clinched a spot in the playoffs. It looks like London and New York will both be fine. All those two teams have to do is win and they are in.
However, Seoul is in a little bit of jeopardy. The Dynasty are 6-2 and there are four teams tied at 5-3 behind them. A loss would blow open the race for the third and final playoff spot.
Overwatch League Stage One Week Five Betting Odds
Dallas Fuel -455
Shanghai Dragons +303
It’s been a long first month of the season for the Shanghai Dragons. Shanghai is the only winless team in the league and has won just four maps all season long. The Dragons are likely to make a lot of additions during the free agency period before the start of Stage 2, as only Undead has played at a consistently high level. The support play just hasn’t been there as Altering, Fiveking, and Freefeel have all struggled in this meta.
Dallas has been the most disappointing team in the league. The Fuel were expected to be the fourth or fifth best team, but instead are sitting at 1-7 and are just one map ahead of the lowly Florida Mayhem on the tiebreaker. This team has also had some major issues at support as well as general chemistry issues.
However, there’s no doubt that Dallas is the more talented side by a wide margin here. The Fuel have been playing better over the last two weeks and are going to be one of the prime turnaround candidates in Stage 2. An emphatic win on Wednesday would help set the stage heading into next split.
Los Angeles Guardians -189
San Francisco Shock +140
These teams might have the same record, but this is one of the bigger mismatches on the board.
LA’s second team has shown some real flashes of brilliance this season. Shaz and BigGoose have been a solid support tandem and the tank play has been good too. Like some of the other teams, one of the problems has been the coordination between the DPS players. Hydration and Asher have been inconsistent with their play and not balanced well with Surefour.
That’s nothing compared to some of the problems we have seen out of San Francisco. The Shock have been a rollercoaster this season, looking very good in some matches and completely lost in others. This team relies on babybay way too much and has struggled everywhere else. Danteh has been serviceable as a complimentary piece, but the back line of Dhak and Sleepy has had its share of issues.
Seoul Dynasty -333
Los Angeles Valiant +233
Overwatch League Stage One Week Five betting Lines
There will be three other teams eagerly awaiting the outcome of this game. Heading into this tilt, Seoul is in 6-2 and in control of its destiny for the last playoff spot, while LA is 5-3 and tied with three other teams.
A Seoul victory would all but eliminate the intrigue heading into the final week of the season. It’s a little surprising to see the Dynasty in this situation considering that they were the favorites to win it all coming into the inaugural season. However, the team has had an issue finding a second DPS to complement fleta, and ryujehong getting sick last week led to this team getting swept by New York and nearly losing to Houston.
As exciting as it would be to see the Valiant pull this out, it’s just not in the cards. LA’s support duo is going to get wrecked by ryu and tobi, and that will be all she wrote.
Boston Uprising -217
Philadelphia Fusion +161
I swear I don’t work for or necessarily root for the Fusion, but there has been consistent value in this team. Last week’s poor performance against the Valiant was the result of some questionable strategy decisions. Philadelphia’s aggressiveness had set it apart from everyone else, but it became vulnerable when it took its foot off the pedal.
That won’t happen for the second week in a row. Once again, there is enough value in the Fusion for me to take them.
