It has not been a picturesque start for Johnny Manziel in the CFL, as the former Heisman Trophy winner has struggled in his first two showings for the Montreal Alouettes. Now there is some question as to whether he will be in the lineup at all this week against the Edmonton Eskimos.

Manziel isn’t getting pulled for performance, as Montreal has precious few options behind him. However, Manziel was injured last time out and has missed two straight days of practice. He is believed to be in the concussion protocol which could make his availability uncertain for the game.
Whether or not Manziel plays, the Alouettes will be significant underdogs as they have proven to be the worst team in the CFL this year. The Eskimos would love to pick up an easy win as they are in the thick of a close West Division race for playoff spots in CFL betting.
This CFL football game between the Montreal Alouettes and Edmonton Eskimos will be held at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada at 9 p.m ET on Saturday, August 18th, 2018.

The line on the game has been pulled because of Manziel’s foggy availability. Edmonton is the superior team and is playing at home, so clearly it will be the favorite to win, but by how much is uncertain. Once there is more clarity on the situation the spread should be announced. The scoring total will also be affected by Manziel’s ability. There figures to be more points if he is play, as he is both explosive and turnover-prone in CFL wagering.
Manziel is the fourth Alouettes quarterback with injury issues. Drew Willy, Vernon Adams and Jeff Mathews are all currently on the shelf. Antonio Pipkin was the quarterback who was getting snaps with the first-team offense during the week as Manziel was recovering.
The Alouettes have only 120 points on the season in eight games, which is the worst in the CFL. Not surprisingly, they have only captured one of those contests. Manziel had a nightmare debut in which he threw four interceptions.
He was 16-of-26 for 168 yards last time out and figures to improve as he gets a better grasp of the offense, but a head injury could keep him on the sideline for awhile.
Three. That’s the number of wins Edmonton has accumulated in four home games on the year. The Eskimos seem to be in great shape to pick up another one in a matchup that figures to be lopsided no matter who is under center for Montreal.
The Eskimos are 5-3 on the season and in second place in their division. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have the same record so Edmonton would do well to pick up an easily winnable home game here.

The only drama in this one surrounds Manziel’s availability. The Alouettes have struggled on both sides of the ball all year and have little chance on the road. Take Edmonton to start slowly but eventually come away with the win.
Keep an eye on when the spread is released because it’s possible Montreal keeps this game close enough to cover in CFL gambling.
CFL ATS Pick: Edmonton Eskimos 31, Montreal Alouettes 21
