The Edmonton Eskimos have the second-best record in the CFL but there are plenty of teams on their heels. They hope to remain ahead of the pack in a key game this week against the B.C. Lions. The Lions are in last place in the West Division but are not out of the playoff picture by a longshot.

The oddsmakers believe this could be a close game and it’s a critical one for both sides. The Eskimos are the slight road favorites but the Lions are going to be desperate to hold court at home in order to pull within one game of .500 on the year. Edmonton can move to 6-2 with a win as the best teams in the league continue to emerge in CFL gambling.
The Edmonton Eskimos and BC Lions will face off on Thursday, August 9, 2018, at 7 p.m. ET at BC Place in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

The Eskimos are listed as three-point favorites in this matchup. The bettors like that spread for Edmonton as 80 percent of the action is on them to cover. The scoring total is listed at 54.5 points as this one could be a high-scoring affair. The “over” is the more popular choice in CFL betting lines.
Last Time Out
The Eskimos and the Lions will be meeting for the second time this season on Thursday. Their first meeting came back in Week 3 when Edmonton, behind a stellar performance from quarterback Mike Reilly, rolled to a 41-22 victory at home.
This time around, B.C. will have home field advantage and it’ll be hoping for a much stronger showing. The Lions jumped out to an early lead in that first matchup thanks to a an interception on defense and a fumble recovery on special teams but they couldn’t capitalize off that early momentum as the Eskimos eventually took control.
Reilly finished with three passing touchdowns and also had one on the ground. He finished with 326 yards in the air and was complemented nicely by running back C.J. Gable who had a career night with 23 carries for 165 yards.
Player To Watch
Reilly -- The Eskimos’ star quarterback comes into this game after one of his poorer performances of the year against Saskatchewan last week. Despite completing just four passes in the first half against and being sacked four times, however, the 33-year-old kept on at it and managed to lead his team to victory.
It’s a scary thought for the rest of the CFL that even on a decidedly off-night, Reilly, who finished 13-of-27 with 257 yards, can still pull out a win. He’ll be looking for a cleaner game in this rematch against BC and the Lions will try and find a way to contain the CFL’s reigning Most Outstanding Player Reilly has thrown for a league-best 2,320 yards and 14 touchdowns this season with a completion percentage of 66.4 percent.
Free CFL Picks
Edmonton looks like the better team but it’s never easy winning on the road. The Lions aren’t a great team but they are good enough to both cover the spread and pull off the upset in this one. The Eskimos are going to be shaking their heads as they head home with a loss in this one in CFL wagering.
The scoring total is too high in this one, as there will be come scoring but not as much as expected. Take the “under” on the total.
CFL ATS Pick: B.C. Lions 27, Edmonton Eskimos 24
