Last week the Kansas Jayhawks showed everyone why there are no sure things with the College football betting lines. KU took apart the Boston College Eagles in a devastating 48-24 win as 18.5-point road dogs. And it was not an accident. Particularly in the early weeks of the college football season the personality and ability of a team can change rapidly either up or down. Take the Michigan State Spartans. A week ago, they were being celebrated for improving their offense. Just seven days later they are being ripped for being behind the times. Line moves were quick on several Week 4 matchups. Let’s take a look at why.

College Football Week 4 Betting Odds Analysis
Nebraska Cornhuskers -10.5 at Illinois Fighting Illini, Saturday, September 21, 2019, 8 p.m. ET, BTN
Nebraska opened as a 7.5-point chalk and was bet up top 10.5 following their blowout home win over the Northern Illinois Huskies last Saturday. The Big Red was impressive in shaking off their devastating loss from the previous week at Colorado. The Fighting Illini of Illinois reminded everyone why they can never be fully trusted in last week’s home loss to the Eastern Michigan Eagles. Lovie Smith just cannot gain traction as coach and patience is running thin. The big question is if Nebraska is right and ready to truly roll now.
Michigan State Spartans -6.5 at Northwestern Wildcats, Saturday, September 21, 2019, Noon ET, ABC
The Spartans opened as an 8.5-point chalk and were bet down to 6.5. And with plenty of good reason. Last week’s home loss to the Arizona State Sun Devils will take a long time to live down. Michigan State slopped and slogged all day yet tied the game at the end of regulation on a field goal, only to have it reversed due to too many men on the field. Northwestern has ugly metrics and offense, as usual, but continues to defy the numbers with intelligent and tenacious play.
LSU Tigers -23 at Vanderbilt Commodores, Saturday, September 21, 2019, Noon ET, SEC Network
LSU opened as a 19-point chalk and was bet up to 23 points. And it’s understandable as to why. The Bayou Bengals offense is humming with quarterback Joe Burrow while the Vanderbilt Commodores rank near the bottom of the national rankings both offensively and defensively. LSU fans will take over Vanderbilt Stadium to make for a virtual home game in this one.
West Virginia Mountaineers -4.5 at Kansas Jayhawks, Saturday, September 21, 2019, 4:30 p.m. ET, ESPN+
West Virginia opened as a 7-point chalk and was bet down to 4.5. That is because of the Jayhawks eye-popping performance at a respected Boston College program. KU took part B C for 567 total yards and rallied from an early 10-0 deficit. The question is if this line move is an overreaction or a portent of things to come in Lawrence.
SMU Mustangs at TCU Horned Frogs -9.5, Saturday, September 21, 2019, 3:30 p.m. ET, FS1
Despite a dominant win and cover last week at the Purdue Boilermakers the public is siding against the TCU Horned Frogs early on. TCU opened as a 13.5-point chalk and was bet down to 9.5 in their upcoming NCAA Football game against the undefeated SMU Mustangs. Head coach Sonny Dykes has the Ponies lighting up the scoreboard with the nation’s 11th ranked offense. TCU is also undefeated at 2-0 and boasts the nation’s second ranked defense.
LSU makes for a potentially powerful play with the College football betting lines against an outclassed Vanderbilt team without an answer on either side of the line.
