In his first two years as head coach of the Purdue Boilermakers Jeff Brohm brought energy and a level of success with the College football betting lines that earned respect from gamblers and fans alike. However, injuries are decimating the Boiler’s lack of depth and a third consecutive bowl season is in considerable doubt. By contrast the Penn State Nittany Lions are a surprise but bona fide college football playoff contender. Last week the Nits disemboweled the Maryland Terrapins on national TV and caught the attention of the country in the process. Penn State had a whopping line move in their favor to start week 6. Let’s look over the most interesting college football odds for the upcoming week.

College Football Week 6 Betting Odds Analysis
Purdue Boilermakers at Penn State Nittany Lions -25, Saturday, October 5, 2019, Noon ET, ESPN
Penn State opened as a 16.5-point chalk and was immediately bet up to 25 points. Purdue is just 1-3 both straight up and against the spread and will bring the nation’s 113th ranked defense to Happy Valley. Penn State is 4-0 and has covered three of their games. Last week the Lions ruined Maryland’s hyped up sellout crowd with a 59-0 statement maker. PSU boasts the nation’s fifth ranked scoring offense.
Virginia Tech Hokies at Miami Hurricanes -13, Saturday, October 5, 2019, 3:30 p.m. ET, ESPN
Miami opened as an 8.5-point chalk and was quickly bet up to 13 points. Virginia Tech head coach Justin Fuente arrived with great fanfare but is now on one of the hottest seats in the land. Tech is 2-2 straight up, 0-4 against the spread, and has the nation’2 101st ranked offense to go with the 79th ranked scoring defense. Miami has a solid defense that is ranked 13th in the country. The Canes are 2-2 both straight up and against the spread with an offense that is not yet on track. The country may be overreacting a but on Virginia Tech. True, they have not looked good but Miami’s struggling offense will be challenged to cover the 13 points.
Auburn Tigers -3 at Florida Gators, Saturday, October 5, 2019, 3:30 p.m. ET, CBS
This College Football game opened as a pick ‘em and was bet up to Auburn -3 in short order. Auburn is catching national attention with a record of 5-0 both straight up and against the spread and is coming off a 56-23 home payout over Mississippi State. Florida is also 5-0 but has covered only two of their games. Still the Gators are well coached with Dan Mullen and boast the nation’s fifth ranked scoring defense.
Michigan State Spartans at Ohio State Buckeyes -21, Saturday, October 5, 2019, 7:30 p.m. ET, ABC
Ohio State opened as a 17-point chalk and was rapidly bet up to 21 points. Ohio State’s 48-7 win at Nebraska has garnered everyone’s respect and attention as does their record of 5-0 straight up and 4-1 against the spread. The Buckeyes boast the nation’s third ranked scoring offense and fourth ranked defense for points allowed. Head coach Ryan Day has the Bucks playing better than last year under Urban Meyer. Most important of all is the dramatic improvement on defense. MSU continues to struggle on offense with the nation’s 71st ranked unit.
Week 6 College Football Odds Best Bets
Virginia Tech is a classic contrarian play with the College football betting lines. They’ll be motivated to atone for last week’s 45-10 home humiliation loss to the Duke Blue Devils. Miami has done little to distinguish themselves with a lay this big.
