This week we are treated to a classic example of how fickle and reactive the public can be with the College football betting lines. One week ago, the UNLV Rebels were a team that nobody would dear plunk down a nickel on. But after their “upset” win at the Vanderbilt Commodores last week money is flowing UNLV’s direction as if the Hoover Dam had just burst. In a similar way the Stanford Cardinal has been seen as redeemed in the eyes of gamblers after their win two weeks ago over a respected Washington Huskies team. Now Stanford is again in the role of bully as they host the pathetic UCLA Bruins. And the biggest bully of all will likely be Friday night when the Ohio State Buckeyes visit the clawless Northwestern Wildcats.

College Football Week 8 Betting Odds Analysis
UCLA Bruins at Stanford Cardinal, Thursday, October 17, 2019, 9 p.m. ET, ESPN
Stanford opened as a 7.5-point favorite and was bet up to 10-points. The move was based on the Cardinal finally getting itself together for a 23-13 home win over a respected Washington team as 13.5-point home dogs. Additionally, the dreadful play of UCLA adds to this move. The Chip Kelly hiring has been a classic example of being careful for what you wish for. UCLA received universal acclaim upon the announcement of Kelly being hired but lost in the noise was the fact that the NFL cracked his X-Box offense code. And even more important than that is the fact that Kelly loathes recruiting, which is the very lifeblood of college football. UCLA has paid in only one of their last 11 meetings with the Tree.
Ohio State Buckeyes at Northwestern Wildcats, Friday, October 18, 2019, 8:30 p.m. ET, FS1
Ohio State opened as a 25.5-point chalk and was quickly bet up to 28-points. Ohio State was expected to contend for the national championship this year but has been even better than expected. The biggest improvement has come on defense where the Buckeyes rank second best in the country. And of great concern is how that matches up with a Northwestern offense that ranks 125th overall in the country and an even worse 128th for scoring. Head coach Ryan Day looks like an upgrade for the Buckeyes as the program is much more complete and drama free than last year. Ohio State has come away with the cash in six of the last seven meetings in this head to head series.
UNLV Rebels at Fresno State Bulldogs, Friday, October 18, 2019, 10 p.m. ET, CBSSN
Fresno State opened as a 16.5-point chalk but money flowed to UNLV as the line dropped to 13.5-points. This line move is a likely overreaction to the Rebels stunning 34-10 win at Vanderbilt as 16.5-point dogs. In addition, Fresno State has not been up to the same level as they were the past two seasons. The Rebels have paid in only three of their last seven on the board as road dogs while Fresno State has covered seven of their last 12 as home chalks. The Rebels 109th in the nation ranked scoring defense should offer the Bulldogs plenty of chances. ULNV’s offense ranks 95th in the land and will be hard pressed to put together consecutive good weeks.
Week 8 College Football Odds Best Bets
It is hard to imagine Stanford letting up on a bad program that they own with the College football betting lines. Northwestern is completely outclassed against nuclear super power Ohio State. And UNLV struck lighting last week which will have Fresno State’s full attention for Friday.
