The gambling public is certainly reacting to a recent combination of last week’s results, the injury list, and some perceptions about programs on the rise and fall with the College football betting lines. Mike Leach and the Washington State Cougars are a great example. Wazzu was tabbed as a team destined to contend for the Pac 12 North Division title and ripped off three straight wins to begin the year. And when the Cougars led UCLA 49-17 late in the third quarter at home, they flashed a championship pose. But Wazzu could not finish and blew the lead and game 67-63 to a dreadful Bruins team that has failed to win another matchup all year. That debacle may go down in infamy for Leach’s career. It already has with a lot of angry gamblers.

College Football Week 7 Betting Odds Analysis
Maryland Terrapins at Purdue Boilermakers, Saturday, October 2, 2019, 11 a.m. ET, Check Listings
Maryland opened as a 2-point chalk but was bet up to 5.5-points. The Terrapins recovered from their 59-0 nationally televised home humiliation debacle against Penn State. Last week they took it all out on a pathetic Rutgers team with a 48-7 payout to improve to 3-2. The Purdue Boilermakers have been decimated by injuries this year and will limp in with a 1-4 record after a 35-7 loss at Penn State last Saturday. The Boilers rank 101st for total offense and 113th in the nation for defense. Maryland has shown overall improvement under first year head coach Mike Locksley but has been inconsistent. However, Purdue has been consistently bad.
Washington State Cougars at Arizona State Sun Devils, Saturday, October 12, 2019, 3:30 p.m. ET, Pac 12 Network
Arizona State opened as a 1-point home chalk but was bet up to a 3-point favorite. That is in large part based on Mike Leach’s Cougars losing their last two games after the UCLA disaster and the resignation of defensive coordinator Tracy Claeys last week. By all accounts Claeys left on his own out of frustration with philosophical differences between he and Leach. All told its not a good look for a program on the ropes. Herm Edwards Sun Devils are 4-1 and boast the nation’s 11th ranked scoring defense. However, ASU ranks 102nd for scoring offense and Wazzu is coming off a bye week in which they had a chance to get their minds right.
Louisville Cardinals at Wake Forest, Saturday, October 12, 2019, 7:30 p.m. ET, ACC Network
Wake Forest opened as a 9-point home chalk but was bet down to 6.5-points. This looks like a potential overreaction to the Cardinals 41-39 home win over Boston College last week which improved their record to 3-2. However, Wake Forest is 5-0 on the season with head coach Dave Clawson’s “Clawfense” ranked 10th in the country. Louisville’s 71st in the nation ranked defense should offer openings. While Louisville has exceeded expectations under first year coach Scott Satterfield, they are behind the Deacs as far as being a developed program.
Connecticut Huskies at Tulane Green Wave, Saturday, October 12, 3:45 p.m. ET, ESPNU
Tulane opened as a 30-point home chalk and was bet up to 32.5-points. And why not? Head Coach Willie Fritz has the Wave rolling with a 4-1 mark both straight up and against the spread after an impressive 42-33 win at Army last week. Tulane boasts the nation’s sixth ranked rushing offense which should chew up and spit out a 1-4 UConn team ranked 103rd in the country for rush defense and 122nd for points allowed.
Week 7 College Football Best Bets
Wake Forest has been bet into something of a bargain with the College football betting lines. And Washington State is a classic contrarian play. Both teams are getting a better price than what they opened with.
