The last two NFC representatives in the Super Bowl will meet on Thursday to kick off the NFL regular season in a big way. The reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles will begin their title defense by hosting the Atlanta Falcons. Many title teams lose talent from their
rosters because it is so hard to pay everyone, but Philadelphia was in good shape against the cap this offseason and brings back nearly every key player.

The Eagles rode backup quarterback Nick Foles to the Super Bowl in last year’s playoffs and he is expected to start this game once again in place of the still-recuperating Carson Wentz. The quarterback situation makes things tougher but Philadelphia is still at home and boasts arguably the deepest roster in the NFL on both sides of the ball.
The Falcons are a good team but they are the underdog in this Week 1 showdown in NFL betting.
This NFL football game between the Atlanta Falcons and Philadelphia Eagles will be held at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at 8:20 p.m ET on Thursday, September 6th, 2018. The contest will be nationally televised on NBC.
We'll have NFL football odds at BETCRIS.com available for every game of the 2018 NFL season.
The Eagles are entering this matchup as 2.5-point favorites to come away victorious. The betting public really likes the Falcons at that spread as they are getting more than 76 percent of the action. The Eagles are the -140 favorites on the moneyline while the Falcons are the +120 underdogs to pull the upset. Once again, Atlanta is getting the majority of the action to steal the road win.
The scoring total is listed at 45.5 points, with the “over” the more popular choice in NFL betting.
Wentz tore his ACL late in the 2017 regular season. He was having a dominant season and was in the running for the MVP award. Many thought the Eagles’ title hopes were shot but Foles came in and guided the ship, playing very well in the Super Bowl as the Eagles beat the Patriots.
Foles’ standout final performance masked some offensive issues in previous games. He is expected to start this game as Wentz is still making his way back from the serious knee injury. If Wentz was healthy and playing the Eagles would be bigger favorites, but the presence of Foles makes this one more of a toss-up.
He didn’t look too sharp in the preseason but hopes to shake that off and find the magic he had against New England. The Falcons have a strong offense to Foles will likely have to be more than a game manager in this matchup.
These teams met in the NFC Divisional Round in 2017 and the Eagles came away with a 15-10 win. The team’s defense dominated Atlanta’s usually high-flying attack. Devonta Freeman was completely shut down as he had only seven rushing yards on 10 carries.
Julio Jones did what he could, catching nine passes for 101 yards, but the Falcons couldn’t come up with enough offense. Foles was 23-of-30 for 246 yards in the game. Atlanta led 10-9 at the half but the Eagles used a pair of second-half field goals to grab the win.
The Falcons had a chance to pull out the win late but couldn’t convert on a fourth-and-goal from the Philadelphia 2-yard-line.

The Falcons’ offense should have a better showing in this one and Foles’ magic might dry up. The Eagles should be in the mix for the NFC title once again but it could be a bit of a slow start without Wentz in the fold.
Atlanta is a very good team and has a big advantage behind center. Take the Falcons to pull off the road upset to begin the season in NFL odds.
NFL ATS Pick: Atlanta Falcons 23, Philadelphia Eagles 20
