The Detroit Lions and Oakland Raiders have been practicing against each other this week to get ready for the season, and will open up their exhibition slate with a game on Friday. Oakland quarterback Derek Carr and Lions signal-caller Matthew Stafford have gotten in some good action in controlled environments, but it remains to be seen if either one sees any playing time in the live tackling scenario of a game.

This is a really hard game to judge because the top players figure to play little or not at all. The Raiders have the advantage of playing at home while the logistics have been tougher on Detroit flying across the country for the week, which is likely why Oakland is the favorite in NFL betting.
This NFL football game between the Detroit Lions and Oakland Raiders will be held at Oakland Alameda Coliseum in Oakland, California at 10:30 p.m ET on Friday, August 10th, 2018. The contest will be nationally televised on NFL Network.
The Raiders are listed as three-point favorites in this contest. The money has come in evenly thus far as there is reason to believe either side can cover. Oakland is the -158 favorite while the Lions are the +138 underdogs. The Raiders have been the more common choice to win this game outright.
The scoring total has been listed 36 points, which is higher than most of the other games this week. The “over” is getting the majority of the action in NFL gambling.

Situation To Watch
The Raiders won’t have superstar pass-rusher Khalil Mack in this one as he continues to hold out because he is unhappy with his contract. Mack is a dominant force and even if he was only scheduled to play a series or two he could have registered a sack or a forced fumble in that limited playing time because he is that talented.
Mack and the Raiders’ standoff does not seem to be coming to a resolution any time soon, and it’s definitely something to keep an eye on as the preseason moves along. In a game that is expected to be close one big play can be the difference, and Mack’s absence hurts Oakland’s odds even by only the slightest degree.
This will be the return to the sidelines for Raiders coach Jon Gruden. He has been in the television booth for several years but has won a Super Bowl and will aim to prove that he still has what it takes to lead a team to success.
The NFL has changed in recent years and it will be interesting to see if Gruden will adapt or stick to the principles which brought him success in the past. All eyes will be on Gruden for this one and he hopes to get off to a quick start in his new gig with the Raiders.

There is more motivation on the Oakland side to get this win and get some positive vibes under Gruden. Look for the Raiders to come up with some key plays late to come away with the victory. Detroit may be worn out after a hectic schedule and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see it lay an egg in this one.
Stafford will either play for a very short time or not at all and the backups may not be ready to compete on the road in this one in NFL gambling. The “under” is the pick as Detroit is going to struggle to score.
NFL ATS Pick: Oakland Raiders 24, Detroit Lions 10
