NFL Minnesota Vikings at Denver Broncos NFL Preview

Case Keenum led the Minnesota Vikings to the NFC Championship game a year ago, but the team chose to sign Kirk Cousins as their new quarterback in free agency. Keenum went to the Denver Broncos to take over as the starter there and will face off against his former team in the preseason opener on Saturday.

Keenum and Cousins aren’t expected to play too much because the teams want to avoid injury to their stars, but it will be interesting to see if either one finds success if they have limited work. It was a big decision for the Vikings to go after Cousins and they hope he will lead them to a Super Bowl.

The Broncos have a good defense but have struggled in recent years because of bad quarterback play and hope Keenum brings back the passing attack. There may not be a bunch learned from this game but the storylines will be high-profile in NFL betting lines.

This NFL football game between the Minnesota Vikings and Denver Broncos will be held at Mile High Stadium in Denver, Colorado at 9 p.m ET on Saturday, August 11th, 2018. The contest will be nationally televised on NFL Network.

Odds Analysis

This game is listed a pick ‘em, which is a nod to the talent of the Vikings despite playing on the road. Minnesota is getting about 55 percent of the action to pick up this victory. The scoring total is listed at 34.5 points, and the “over” is the more common pick.

Both of the starting defenses have the ability to be elite but those groups won’t be on the field for too long since this is only the first preseason game.

We'll have NFL football odds at BetCris available for every game of the 2018 NFL season.

Familiar Faces

Keenum used to play for the Vikings, while Minnesota’s backup quarterbacks are both former Broncos. Trevor Siemian started last season for Denver and is now the second-string option behind Cousins in Minnesota. Kyle Sloter showed some promise last preseason and is trying to make the Vikings as a No. 3 quarterback.

The presence of Siemian is a big reason why Minnesota is a pick ‘em in this game, as he is one of the more talented backups in the NFL. Siemian will aim to have a nice showing against his former team, while Sloter hopes to impress as well.

The Broncos’ backups are Paxton Lynch and Chad Kelly. Lynch is a former first-round pick who has never lived up to expectations and there isn’t a lot of reason to believe he will pan out at this point.

Player To Watch

Dalvin Cook -- The Vikings running back tore his ACL a season ago but has looked good in practices and he is expected to return to game action in this one. Big things are expected of Cook in 2018 so he isn’t expected to see a bunch of carries, but if he is able to break a long run or two it would increase the Vikings’ chances of winning.

Free NFL ATS Picks

Minnesota has one of the most talented teams in the NFL and in the regular season it would be the road favorite. The lack of clarity on playing time makes this one more of a toss-up, as it is hard to know if the team’s star-studded defense will be in for more than a series or two.

While the home team is usually the better choice in toss-ups like this, look for Siemian to have a nice showing and lead his new Vikings team to a victory over the Broncos in NFL gambling. The “over” is the pick on the scoring total.

NFL ATS Pick: Denver Broncos 19, Minnesota Vikings 17
