NFL Football Eagles vs Browns

It’s not often a winless team is favored over the defending Super Bowl champion, but that’s the beauty of the preseason. The Cleveland Browns will host the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 3 of the preseason and are projected to come away with the victory.

Cleveland has an advantage because its quarterbacks are healthy and playing well. Tyrod Taylor is expected to start the game and could play a good amount as this is the last exhibition dry run before the regular season because the starters sit in Week 4. No. 1 overall pick Baker Mayfield has played well in the preseason and should get some more experience in this one.

Cleveland has a lot more to play for as the Eagles are basically going through the motions as they wait to begin their title defense in the regular season in NFL gambling.

This NFL football game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Cleveland Browns will be held at FirstEnergy Stadium in Cleveland, Ohio at 8 p.m ET on Thursday, August 23rd, 2018. The contest will be nationally televised on FOX. We'll have NFL football odds at available for every game of the 2018 NFL season.

Injury Update

Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz has returned to 11-on-11 work but will be held out of this game as he continues to recover from a torn ACL. Wentz was the front-runner for the league’s MVP award a year ago before tearing up the knee. He is a star when healthy and the Browns are lucky to avoid him even though it’s only the preseason.

Backup Nick Foles led the Eagles to the Super Bowl win last year but is dealing with a right shoulder injury. He is practicing but it is unclear if the team will play him against Cleveland. If Foles doesn’t play, the Browns will have a big-time advantage at quarterback in this one. The Eagles have a great roster elsewhere but the passing game is huge in the NFL.

Josh Gordon Update

The talented Browns receiver has returned to the team after missing most of training camp to attend to personal matters. He is a dynamic talent when on the field but will not play in this game as he has yet to practice for Cleveland.

The Browns would like to get Gordon back in the fold for the regular season opener, as he would be a nice piece alongside free agent addition Jarvis Landry. Gordon’s presence could have pushed the spread higher because he is such an amazing player, but like Wentz he will be on the sideline for this one.

Free NFL ATS Picks

The Eagles have a dominant defensive group so Taylor could struggle to score, but Mayfield figures to go against the backups in the second half and could get something going. This one should be a low-scoring affair because of Philadelphia’s great defense and its missing quarterback. Take the Browns to cover and the “under” on the total in NFL gambling.

NFL ATS Pick: Cleveland Browns 21, Philadelphia Eagles 13
