Super Bowl LIV odds opened as a pick and the early money has been on Kansas City, as the Chiefs are now a 1.5-point favorite. The total was opened up by oddsmakers too low, as it opened at 51 and has already been bet up to 53.5. The public almost always bets the total in Super Bowls over so it is no surprise that the number has gone up. The question is whether or not the wiseguys will get involved in this game and bet the under on game day.
The Chiefs finished with the 5th best offense in the NFL, averaging just over 28 points per game. They rank 7th in terms of defense, giving up just over 19 points per contest. The Chiefs are led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes, tight end Travis Kelce and wide receiver Tyreek Hill. Kansas City has started slow in their playoff games, but they rallied to rout Houston and Tennessee to reach the Super Bowl. The Chiefs have scored at least 30 points in each of their past three games.

The 49ers are not thought to be as explosive on offense as Kansas City, but San Francisco actually scored more points per game than the Chiefs, as San Francisco averaged almost 30 points per game. The 49ers are 8th on defense, giving up just over 19 points per contest. The 49ers are led on offense by quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, tight end George Kittle and running back Raheem Mostert. Four of the last six games for San Francisco have gone over the total.
NFL Team Leaders
- Touchdowns – Raheem Mostert 12
- Rushing – Raheem Mostert 1,050
- Passing – Jimmy Garoppolo 4,186
- Receiving – George Kittle 1,088
- Sacks – Arik Armstead 12
- Interceptions – Richard Sherman 5
If you think this is a matchup between offense vs. defense then you probably like the 49ers. There is no question that the 49ers have the better defense, despite what the statistics say. It should be noted that the 49ers were without some of their top players for a period of time during the regular season and the defense struggled with those players out. Everyone is back now and the 49ers were dominant in the playoffs in wins over Minnesota and Green Bay. The question is whether or not Mahomes can scramble around and make enough plays for the Chiefs to score points. There is no doubt that the 49ers are going to score against the Kansas City defense. The 49ers have a dominating running game and an underrated passing game. I don’t see the Chiefs containing the 49ers so it comes down to whether or not Mahomes can trade points. My early answer is no, so I have an early lean to the 49ers in Super Bowl LIV.
