Last year brought one of the most surprising results with the NHL betting lines in history. On New Years Day the St. Louis Blues had the worst record in all of the NHL. In fact, the Blues were written off for dead and were facing the desperate situation of calling up a rookie goaltender that had been toiling on loan in the depths of the minor leagues. While that was going on the Tampa Bay Lightning were coasting towards the Presidents Trophy as the best regular season team in the league. Yet come playoff time the Lighting were bounced in a stunning first round loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets while Jordan Binnington became a sensation and Stanley Cup champion with the St. Louis Blues. All of which illustrates the unpredictability of the NHL. Let’s take a look at the 2019-20 Stanley Cup Futures.

NHL 2019-20 Futures Betting Odds Analysis
The gambling public has flocked to recently successful teams such as the Lighting, Golden Knights, Maple Leafs, Bruins and Blues. Colorado could be a bit of a reach as an unproven playoff team. Washington is fading in public esteem as are the Predators. Florida looks to be the trendy reach team thanks to offseason moves but is also unproven. Pittsburgh could bring the best value as they still have Sidney Crosby and a capable supporting cast.
Tampa Bay Lighting
Tampa Bay will never live down their 128-point NHL regular season that ended up in utter and total humiliation. Head coach Jon Cooper said that the problem may have been that his team never faced adversity in the regular season. Still, this is a loaded team that simply has to toughen up mentally come playoff time.
St. Louis Blues
The big question is if Jordan Binnington is for real and the long term solution or a one hit wonder. Binnington posted a .914 save percentage in the playoffs with a record of 16-10. Center Ryan O’Reilly won the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff Most Valuable Player. What is ironic is that the Blues may be better this year while failing to repeat as Stanley Cup champions.
Vegas Golden Knights
While the Golden Knights are top tier favorites their inability to finish off San Jose in the playoffs is an eyesore to many. While some will wine about a bad major penalty called in game seven the fact is the Golden Knights could have killed off the Sharks the game before in Vegas and held 3-0 lead in the third period of game seven before blowing it because they couldn’t kill a penalty like a real championship team would.
Tampa Bay is the obvious choice with the NHL betting lines and the price reflects that. Pittsburgh is a classic beaten favorite that has the pedigree of being a Stanley Cup champion. As far as wagering value goes nobody will bring more at 25/1.
