If there was any doubt about the Stanley Cup Playoffs being the best post season in all of professional sports it was confirmed last Monday night at Denver’s Pepsi Center. Facing elimination in front of their home fans the Colorado Avalanche took at 3-2 lead late into the third period before the Sharks sent the game into overtime with a late goal by Marc-Edouard Vlasic at the 17:32 mark. But 2:32 into overtime Gabriel Landeskog lit the lamp for the Avs to send the series back to the Shark tank for a game seven. And there is nothing on Earth like a Stanley Cup Playoff Game Seven!

So far, the home team has come away with the cash in four of the previous six games in this series. Only two of the six games have gone under the total. The winner of this seventh game will move on to the Western Conference Final. The loser will hit the golf links with plenty of regrets and the pain of a grueling season-ending short of glory.
Colorado Current Form
Colorado has paid out in seven of their 11 playoff game so far this spring. Only four of their 11 post season matches have gone over the total. The Avalanche have been one of the biggest money makers in the playoffs at +389 units. What was a team that was written off for dead late in March is now just one win away from the NHL’s final four. Offense has been the catalyst for the Avalanche post season success. Colorado ranks fifth best in the NHL Playoffs for goal scoring.
San Jose Current Form
San Jose has also used strong offense to keep their Stanley Cup dreams alive. The Sharks rank third best in the NHL for goal scoring in the post season. Keep in mind San Jose rallied from 3-1 down in their first round series against Vegas to end up winning 4-3. Overall the Sharks are 7-6 in the post season thus far with only four of their playoff games going under the total.
MacKinnon on Milk Carton
Colorado center Nathan MacKinnon leads the Avs in scoring with six goals and seven assists. But in his last two games he has come up blank on the scoresheet. MacKinnon has been harassed and suffocated by the Sharks, who are flooding the neutral zone effectively. MacKinnon’s frustration is mounting. Now the question is if the Avalanche super star can bust loose when it matters most.

Former Washington backup Philipp Grubauer has come up aces for the Avalanche in the playoffs. Grubauer has a .928 save percentage with a 2.23 goals against average and one shutout. Grubauer has been remarkably consistent so far in post season. Less consistent but clutch when it has mattered most has been San Jose’s Martin Jones. Jones has a .908 save percentage with a 2.78 goals against average for the Sharks. But after a very rough start against Vegas he has been much more effective in the last nine games.
