The Philadelphia Flyers are likely to make the postseason, but a strong finish can move them up the standings and result in a better first-round matchup. They will aim for a win next time out against the Carolina Hurricanes as the season comes to a close.
Carolina has been eliminated from playoff contention so won’t have a ton of motivation in this one. Philadelphia is the superior team and has the home ice, so it will be the clear favorite to take care of business in NHL hockey betting.
Don't miss the hardwood action from Wells Fargo Arena Philadelphia at 8 p.m. ET on Thursday, April 5, 2018.
We'll have NHL odds at Betcris available for this and every game on the NHL Thursday schedule.
The Hurricanes are 35-34-11 on the season and have accumulated 81 points on the season. Their goal-differential is minus-28 and the team was recently eliminated from postseason contention. Carolina has been decent on the road this season so a loss isn’t a formality.
The Flyers are 40-26-14 on the year and have 94 points. They are 5-2-3 in their past 10 games to help get some breathing room in their aim to make the postseason. Philadelphia will be expected to win this game in NHL hockey betting.
Two. That’s the number of points that separates the Nos. 5 through 8 seeds in the Eastern Conference with just a few games remaining. The Flyers sit at the bottom of that pack but can easily move up with wins and subsequent losses by the teams they are chasing.
The Pittsburgh Penguins and Columbus Blue Jackets currently have 96 points on the year, while the New Jersey Devils have 95. All four teams have played 80 games on the year and have only a couple remaining. It is anyone’s guess as to how these seedings will finish up, as it should come down to the final day of games.
The Flyers would love to move up to avoid the best teams in the East in the first round.
Player to Watch
Claude Giroux – The Flyers’ leading scorer has 29 goals and 95 points on the season with 66 assists. He has scored four goals in the last three games, including the game-winner against the Bruins on Sunday.
Late last month, Giroux passed Eric Lindros to become the fifth-leading scorer in Philadelphia’s history. The 30-year-old has scored 670 points in his career to date and was named to the All-Star team again this season, for the fifth time in his career.
Giroux has not yet scored against the Hurricanes this season, but is always a threat on the ice. He teams up with Jakub Voracek to lead an offense that averages three goals a game this season.

The Flyers are the better team and would love to pick up a win here to move up in the standings if the other teams falter. Don’t over-think this one. Take Philadelphia to come away with the victory on its home ice to put the pressure on the other playoff teams close to it record-wise.
The Flyers will make sure this game is not in doubt at the end, as they are the choice to win by multiple goals. Make Philadelphian the team you back in NHL hockey wagering.
NHL Odds: Flyers 4, Hurricanes 2
