Stanley Cup Final Boston Bruins vs. St. Louis Blues

Following the Boston Bruins dominant 4-2 win in game one of the Stanley Cup Final the underdog St. Louis Blues were considered a long shot at best. Indeed, the Bruins steamrolled the Blues as that first game progressed and carried the play for the final two periods. As a result of that opener, highly impressed gamblers bet the Bruins up for game two. But the Blues corrected their many errors from that first game and prevailed 3-2 in overtime to even the series Wednesday night. With the win St. Louis took home ice advantage away from Boston. With both teams coming off a bad and good game to start the series the handicapping challenge is more pronounced.

Series Schedule

Games three and four will take place at Enterprise Center in St. Louis. The fourth Hockey game is scheduled for Monday night. Game five will be at Boston on Thursday. If necessary, the Blues would host game six on Sunday, June 9. The Bruins would get home ice for a seventh game on Wednesday, June 12.

Blues Clean Up for Game Two Win

In their 4-2 game one defeat, the Blues were sloppy, selfish, and undisciplined. St. Louis was ineffective on the back end with poor passing and puck possession. Stupid penalties kept them shorthanded far too often. But head coach Craig Berube and the team cleaned all of that up for the second game. In fact, the Blues came out as an entirely different team for the second game. After getting outshot 38-20 in the first game, St. Louis turned the tables and outshot the Bruins 37-23 in game two.

Boom Boom Gunnarsson Kill Shot

Carl “Boom Boom” Gunnarsson was the hero of game two with the overtime game winner at 3:51. Gunnarsson had a conversation in the men’s room with Berube prior to overtime about needing one more shot after hitting the goal post on a close call in regulation. Berube agreed and the rest is history. It was the first goal of the postseason for Gunnarsson. He also had an assist and a plus two in the win.

Goaltending Analysis

St. Louis goaltender Jordan Binnington recovered from a shaky start in game two in which he allowed a couple of weak goals in the first 10:17 of play. The rookie was stout from that point on and pitched a shutout the rest of the way. Binnington has a .917 save percentage in the series so far and has shown the nerves and demeanor of a veteran.

Tuukka Rask has been the best player in the playoffs for the Bruins so far. His playoff save percentage is .939 although he has dropped to .912 in the Stanley Cup Final. Rask has the added pressure of trying to win the Stanley Cup as Boston’s top netminder after he backed up Tim Thomas in the Bruins 2011 championship run.

Bruins vs. Blues Free Picks

St. Louis has been the most resilient team in the Stanley Cup Playoffs this spring. They have survived losses and crises with nerves of steel in all four rounds. Now they return home to what will be a crazed sellout crowd at Enterprise Center. The quest for the franchise’s first ever Stanley Cup continues.
