It was all laid out for the Winnipeg Jets on Monday night. Home ice and a party atmosphere greeted them for their game six matchup against the Nashville Predators. Fresh off a dominant 6-2 win at Music City in game five on Saturday the Jets were set to clinch the series in front of their loud and boisterous home fans. Instead the Preds suffocated the life out of Winnipeg and the sellout crowd with a clutch 4-0 game six win. Now the series heads back to Nashville for the seventh, final and deciding game. The winner will move on to meet Vegas in the Western Conference Final. The loser heads to the links in bitter disappointment.

Few wins in recent memory were as impressive as Nashville’s 4-0 payout in game six at Winnipeg. Facing elimination in the most hostile of environments the Preds found a way. Nothing was more important than goaltender Pekka Rinne’s clutch performance. Rinne posted 34 saves for the shutout after struggling for much of this series. Left wing Filip Forsberg had two goals with one assists and a plus four. Fellow left winger Viktor Arvidsson added two goals and one assist with a plus four. And defenseman PK Subban, who guaranteed victory in game six, added a plus two and a highly valuable sense of presence.
Nashville center Mike Fisher is day to day with an undisclosed issue. The veteran Fisher came out of retirement midway through the year and serves as a checking forward. Not to mention also toiling as Carey Underwood’s husband in his spare time.

Players to Watch
Center Mark Scheifele has the hot hand for the Jets. In 11 post season games he has nine goals with five assists and a plus four. Right winger Blake Wheeler has also been key for the Jets. Wheeler has posted three goals and ten assists with a plus two. Defenseman Dustin Byfuglien looms large for the Jets. “Big Buff” has four goals and eight assists with a plus six in post season so far.
For Nashville it begins with defenseman PK Subban who adds much more to a game than what can be seen on a stat sheet. Subban has three goals and five assists in 12 post season games so far. Beyond that he offers swagger and confidence to his team. Filip Forsberg leads Nashville with seven goals and eight assists with a plus four. Center Ryan Johansen has five goals with eight assists and a plus five.
Pekka Rinne has a subpar save percentage of .907 for the Predators so far in post season. But when it mattered most in game six he slammed the door. Last year in the playoffs he posted a save percentage of .930.
For Winnipeg Connor Hellebuyck has a solid save percentage of .922 with two shutouts in post season.
The pressure on both netminders for game seven will be excruciating. There is little if any margin for error. And nothing but blame for a loss. Blame that will last for an entire year.
Nashville has won five of their last eight home games against the Jets with six of the last eight in this series at Bridgestone Arena going over the total.

Most everyone will be betting the defending Western Conference champion Predators to prevail on home ice. But the fact remains Rinne has been very inconsistent. Can he deliver two games in a row? Winnipeg makes for a talented and deep value pick.
