Bellator gets the spotlight this week with no UFC event scheduled, as Bellator 175 takes place on Friday, March 31 with Rampage vs. King Mo 2. Bellator actually has two events taking place before UFC 210 gets all of the attention on April 8. Bellator 176 is set for April 8 in Turin, Italy with a championship bout between Rafael Carvalho and Melvin Manhoef. Let’s look at Bellator 175 and Bellator 176 with a focus on the main events and Bellator picks.
Bellator 175 takes place on Friday, March 31 at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois. There are five fights on the main card on Spike TV and 11 fights on the preliminary card on Spike.com.
Bellator 175 Main Card (Spike TV)
Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson vs. Muhammed Lawal
These two fought almost two years ago and it was Jackson winning a questionable decision. The judges scored it unanimous for Jackson, but most people who saw the fight scored it for King Mo. Jackson said he is very motivated to beat King Mo again.
“You guys have no idea how much ‘King Mo’ motivates me – the guy’s mouth is ridiculous,” Jackson said. “That’s what I need. I wish more of my opponents would talk (expletive) like ‘King Mo.’ A lot of times, I’m not even motivated most times I fight. I don’t even care.” Rampage has won five straight fights and will be looking to beat King Mo for the second time.
King Mo said on the media call that he will be at full strength and ready to go. “For this fight right here, I’m going to be healthy,” Lawal said, “I’ll have been at American Top Team for two years because last time I was new to the gym. I’m ready to go. All that talking in past is done. I’m ready to rumble.”
I think this fight will end with one of the two getting the finish, so when the rounds come out I will go under the total.
The other four fights on the main card have Sergei Kharitonov vs. Chase Gormley, Emmanuel Sanchez vs. Marcos Galvao, Steve Kozola vs. Jake Roberts and Noad Lahat vs. Lloyd Carter.
The 11 fights on the preliminary card on Spike.com have Joaquin Buckley vs. Justin Patterson, Prince McLean vs. Adam Maciejewski, Tom Shoaff vs. Damian Norris, James Bochnoviv vs. Matt Paul, Manny Vazquez vs. Nate Williams, Tim Cho vs. Joshua Hardwick, Tom Holder vs. Josh Streaker, David Garcia vs. Cory Galloway, Brian Akins vs. Mike DeLaVega, Asef Askar vs. James Esposito and Max Fuentes vs. Brandon Shelhart.
Bellator 176 takes place on April 8 at the Pala Alpitour in Torino, Italy. At this point there are four fights announced on the main card and a number of kickboxing bouts on the preliminary card.
Bellator 176 Main Card (Spike TV)
Rafael Carvalho vs. Melvin Manhoef
Carvalho is the champion and he should be favored in this bout against Manhoef. This fight is a rematch of a bout from May of last year that Carvalho won by split decision. Carvalho is 13-1 in his career and has not lost since his debut in 2011, while Manhoef is 30-13-1 in his career with 28 of those wins coming by knockout.
I see no reason that Carvalho won’t be able to get the win, as he beat Manhoef last year and he has the edge in youth and in talent.
Also on the main card it is Anastasia Yankova vs. Elina Kallionidou, Carrington Banks vs. Mihail Nica and Djamil Chan vs. Valeriu Mircea. There have been five kickboxing bouts announced so far, with Denise Kieholtz vs. Martine Michieletto, Amansio Paraschiv vs. Giorgio Petrosyan, John Wayne Parr vs. Nando Calzetta, Musta Haida vs. Enriko Kehl and Gaston Bolanos vs. Luca D’lsanto.
