UFC 211 on Saturday night in Dallas, Texas features two title bouts, as Stipe Miocic will defend his heavyweight title against Junior dos Santos, while Joanna Jedrzejczyk defends her strawweight title against Jessica Andrade. There are five fights on the main pay-per-view card and nine on the preliminary card, with four on FX and five on UFC Fight Pass. Let’s look at UFC 211 with a focus on Miocic vs. dos Santos and Jedrzejczyk vs. Andrade. Bet on UFC at BetCris
Stipe Miocic -129 vs. Junior dos Santos (rounds 1.5 over -190)
Miocic is 16-2 in his career and he is coming off a successful title defense, as he beat Alistair Overeem at UFC 203 last September. This will be the second title defense for Miocic, as he looks to establish some dominance in the heavyweight division. No UFC heavyweight champion has ever successfully defended the title more than twice.
“Honestly, I sit there and I don’t really care about how many defenses I have, all I care about is winning,” Miocic said to the Boston Herald, “I love what I do, I’m going to keep winning. I have trained way too hard and sacrificed way too much to give it up.”
Miocic has just two losses in his career but one of those losses came to dos Santos in 2014. “It was a fight,” Miocic said, “It sucked. I had a swollen eye, I had some stitches in my mouth, inside my mouth. But, you know, part of the game, I guess. It sucked for about a week, but after a week I felt fine, I was good to go. But definitely some bumps and bruises.”
Miocic said he is going to try and not get hit as much in the rematch. “I think, definitely, work on that and try not to get hit as much,” said Miocic, “I did a lot of things wrong. It was my first five-round fight. We went over a lot of stuff, and definitely have a better game plan next fight.”
Dos Santos is 18-4 in his career and coming off a win against Ben Rothwell last April. Dos Santos said he is stronger and smarter than when he beat Miocic last time. “In my dreams, the way I see things going on the fight, I can see myself beating him before the end of the second round. I’m very well-prepared, I’m living a great moment. I’m stronger, I’m smarter, I have more experience now, and I think the same is happening with him.”
I am surprised that Miocic isn’t a bigger favorite, as he has fought tougher competition than has dos Santos and Miocic is better prepared. I will lay the price and take Miocic to get the win.
Joanna Jedrzejczyk -165 vs. Jessica Andrade (rounds 3.5 over -300)
Jedrzejczyk is looking to become the first female to win titles in two different weight classes. The UFC is going to make a featherweight division and Jedrzejczyk is ready. “Like a year ago I said that I would kind of (look to be) a champion in two different divisions, and people were like, ‘Oh, Joanna got a little bit crazy,’” Jedrzejczyk said that she will fight in strawweight this year but that next year she wants to fight in both divisions. “Definitely this year I will fight just in the strawweight division,” she said, “but who knows what’s going to happen next year? If I will get this opportunity to fight for the second belt, I will do that.”
The matchup between Jedrzejczyk and Andrade is one between two fighters who know each other well. “I know Jessica for a while,” said Jedrzejczyk in a UFC 211 press conference, “We’ve been kind of friends. Friends may be a bit too much — we were colleagues. Is that a good word? We used to train together sometimes; we used to do some crazy things when I was at the fights when she fought or when I fought. We used to have good times, many good times.”
I don’t see Andrade as being good enough to beat the champion, so I will lay the price and take Jedrzejczyk. UFC 211: Miocic vs. dos Santos 2 takes place on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the American Airlines Arena in Dallas, Texas, with the main event featuring Stipe Miocic defending his UFC heavyweight title against Junior dos Santos.
