Maycee Barber vs Gillian Robertson Betting Picks

Undefeated flyweight prospect Maycee “The Future” Barber (7-0, 4 KOs, 2 SUBs) will meet Gillian “The Savage” Robertson (7-3, 1 KO, 5 SUBs) at UFC on ESPN 6 on Saturday, October 18, 2019 at the TD Garden in Boston, MA. The main card airs live on ESPN starting 9pm ET.

Currently, the UFC women’s flyweight division is Valentina Shevchenko, then everybody else. As the promotion’s newest weight class, it suffers from a lack of depth and a champion so dominant it’s tough to see anybody even coming close to beating her for a couple of years. But hey, that’s what we said about Ronda Rousey and Joanna Jedrzejczyk, right?

Maycee Barber might be just 21 years old, but with the way she’s going now, she could be finding herself challenging for the title in just a few years. With a moniker like “The Future”, it’s obvious that Barber expects big things from herself. Perhaps the division’s brightest prospect, Barber is already 7-0 in her career, earning a UFC contract on the strength of a TKO win on DWCS in 2018 and following that up with back-to-back knockouts of Hannah Cifers and JJ Aldrich in her first two fights.

This Saturday, Barber will defend her undefeated record and possibly introduce herself to a wide audience on ESPN proper when she meets Gillian Robertson in Boston. Robertson, a TUF alum, has been a pleasant surprise since an inconspicuous showing on TUF. All four of her UFC wins have come by way of finish, with her only loss coming against Mayra Silva in 2018.

While it’ll be some time before either enters the title mix, a top 10 spot is up for grabs here. And given how aggressively both fighters hunt finishes, it’ll be a lot of fun watching them seize the opportunity. Sign Up at Betcris! Bet Maycee Barber vs Gillian Robertson UFC fight at Betcris

Barber started her UFC career as a strawweight, but recently made the move up to 125 pounds despite doubts that her style would translate against bigger fighters. Her flyweight debut against JJ Aldrich put some of these doubts to bed, as Barber earned a standing TKO after landing a monster straight left.

Like a young Paige VanZant, Barber wins by being tough, tireless and relentless. What separates her from PVZ is that she’s got natural knockout power to go with excellent athleticism. While the 21-year old is still extremely raw, she has a good idea of how to use her strength, and can be brutal when it comes to the clinch and wrestling.

Robertson isn’t as gifted an athlete, but she’s done surprisingly well with a dangerous submission game. At 24, The Savage still has plenty of time to get better, and improvements can be expected for anyone that trains at American Top Team. Still, Robertson is still extremely wild, and has yet to develop any sort of fighting identity. While she’s great at taking what’s given to her, she struggled when matched up against another plus athlete in Myra Silva. Unless she dramatically improves her technique, the lack of speed and power gives Gillian a clear ceiling.

UFC Odds Pick: Barber to win inside the distance at +150

We normally don’t like picking raw prospects, but Robertson isn’t the type of crafty vet that can exploit Barber’s inexperience. Barber is also clearly has better physical tools, and that’s something that Robertson has struggled with in the past. We expect the pace to be too much for Robertson to handle and expect her to succumb before the final bell. Barber to win straight up is too pricey for our liking, but betting her inside the distance is a solid value.
