UFC 220 on Saturday in Boston features UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic defending his title against Francis Ngannou. These two fighters have combined to go 28-3 in their careers and each has serious knockout power. The co-main event has Daniel Cormier defending his UFC light heavyweight title against Volkan Oezdemir. There are five fights on the main pay-per-view card and seven fights on the preliminary card, with four on FS1 and three on UFC Fight Pass. Let’s look at the card with a focus on Miocic vs. Ngannou and Cormier vs. Oezdemir.

Francis Ngannou -180 vs. Stipe Miocic

Miocic is the current UFC heavyweight champion, but he is listed as the underdog in this fight against Ngannou. Miocic is 17-2 in his career and he has won his last five fights, all by knockout. Ngannou is 11-1 in his career and he has won six of his last seven fights by knockout.

Ngannou said that he is a well-rounded fighter who can do more than just knock people out. I am more than that knockout. I’m still improving and trying to show people what I’m able to do and I think I can do a lot more than that.” Ngannou said to Bloody Elbow. Ngannou has won his last ten fights overall and all ten were finishes.

Ngannou said that he respects Miocic, but that Miocic doesn’t have enough ability to beat him. “He’s good,” said Ngannou, “He’s good at everything. He’s good at wrestling. He’s good at striking. But none of that will matter. I have the opportunity here to use everything I have to win. And that’s what I am going to do.”

UFC Picks

Both Miocic and Ngannou have big time power and it is hard to see anything other than a quick finish one way or another, so I will take the rounds to go under.

Daniel Cormier -350 vs. Volkan Oezdemir

Cormier is a big favorite to take care of Oezdemir on Saturday night. Cormier has given Oezdemir very little respect and Oezdemir didn’t even sound that confident on the conference call saying, “This is the fight to determine who is going to be the champion of the world, so what I want is to face the best Daniel and the best fighter in the world right now; that’s the one I want to beat.”

Cormier is 19-1-1 in his career, while Oezdemir 15-1. The difference in competition is huge, as Cormier has fought the best in the UFC, while Oezdemir has fought just three times in the UFC. Cormier doesn’t think Oezdemir has any chance. “But when I look at guys like Anthony Johnson or Volkan Oezdemir, the people that think they’re going to beat me – it’s just crazy.”

UFC Picks

It is hard to envision anything other than a dominating win for Cormier, but it is tough to lay more than 3-1 in any fight. I will take this fight to go under the rounds total.
