BETCRIS UFC Fight Night 121 Fabricio Werdum vs Marcin Tybura

Fabrico Werdum takes on Marcin Tybura in the main event of UFC Fight Night 121 in Australia on FS1. The event takes place on Sunday in Australia, but because of the time difference, it will be seen on Saturday night in North America. Werdum is 21-7-1 in his career, including 13-5 in the UFC, while Tybura is 16-2, including 3-1 in the UFC. There are six fights on the main card on FS1 and seven on the preliminary card, with four on FS1 and three on UFC Fight Pass. Let’s look at the event with a focus on Werdum vs. Tybura and UFC picks.

Werdum vs. Tybura

Werdum is a UFC veteran who has a record of 22-7-1 overall, including 13-5 in the UFC. He had his big chance just over two years ago to win the UFC heavyweight championship, but he was knocked out by Stipe Miocic in the first round. Werdum did bounce back to defeat Travis Browne in September of last year, but then he lost a majority decision to Alistair Overeem last July. Werdum is coming off a submission win against Walt Harris at UFC 216 in October.

Werdum has some power, as he has six knockout wins in his career, but he is better known for his talent on the mat, as he has ten wins by submission.

Tybura is 16-2 in his career, including 3-1 in the UFC. He lost his UFC debut against Timothy Johnson last May, but he has bounced back to win his last three fights. He knocked out Viktor Pesta in August of last year, knocked out Luis Henrique in March of this year and he won a unanimous decision against Andre Arlovski in June. Tybura rarely goes to a decision, as 12 of his 14 wins have been finishes. He has six wins by knockout and six by submission.

Tybura said to MMAJunkie.com that this fight against Werdum is huge for him. “It’s really special for me to fight a Top-2 fighter in the world already in Fabricio. I recognize (he’s) one of the best heavyweights in the world – even the best, because he beat Fedor (Emelianenko) in his prime time, and he beat Cain (Velasquez) at a time when he was unbeatable. This guy has something special. I know he’s good. This is the top. That’s what I wanted to do when I came into the UFC, and now it’s happening. So I’m just happy.”

UFC Picks

Tybura has looked good recently, but he is taking a big step up in class against a tough fighter in Werdum who has a lot of UFC experience. I will take Werdum to get the win in a fight that probably won’t go the distance.

In some of the other bouts at UFC Fight Night 121, I like Bec Rawlings over Jessy Rose-Clark, Belal Muhammad over Tim Means and Ashkan Mokhtarian over Ryan Benoit.
