Former lightweight title challenger Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone takes on Yancy Medeiros at UFC Fight Night 126 on Sunday in Austin, Texas on FS1. Cerrone is 32-10 in his career but on a three-fight losing streak, while Medeiros is 15-4-1 and on a three-fight winning streak. There are six fights on the main card on FS1 and six on the preliminary card, with four on FS1 and two on UFC Fight Pass. Let’s look at the event with a focus on Cerrone vs. Medeiros and Tybura vs. Lewis.

Donald Cerrone -155 vs. Yancy Medeiros
Cerrone has not won a fight since 2016, so this is a huge bout on Sunday night against Medeiros. Cerrone was knocked out by Jorge Masvidal in January of last year, lost a unanimous decision to Robbie Lawler in July and was knocked out by Darren Till in October.
Cerrone definitely has talent on the mat, as he has 16 submission wins in his career. He has won 24 times in his career by some sort of stoppage, so rarely do his fights go to a decision. In fact, his last five wins have come by stoppage.
Medeiros has won his last three fights, submitting Sean Spencer in September of 2016, knocking out Erick Silva in June of last year and knocking out Alex Oliveira last December. Medeiros definitely has power, as his last two wins came by knockout, and like Cerrone, most of his wins have come by stoppage.
Only three of the 15 wins by Medeiros have ended up going to a decision. He has eight knockout wins in his career, so he should have the advantage when the fight is standing. The question is what happens when this fight goes to the mat. Medeiros has shown some submission skill, but he could be in trouble against Cerrone on the mat.
Cerrone has not looked that good recently, but he is still listed as the favorite in this fight against Medeiros. That fact alone has me leaning toward the Cowboy in this fight. I also think Cerrone will be highly motivated, not wanting to lose four straight fights. I will lay the price and take Cerrone in this fight. I also think there is some value in taking the rounds to go under the total considering both of these fighters are known for finishing.
Marcin Tybura -150 vs. Derrick Lewis
Tybura comes into this fight with a record of 16-3, while Lewis is 18-5. Tybura had won three straight fights until losing a unanimous decision to Fabricio Werdum last November. Lewis, nicknamed “The Black Beast” had won six straight fights before getting knocked out by Mark Hunt last year.
I am surprised at the odds on this fight, as I think Lewis should be favored. I think Lewis has more power than Tybura and the level of competition that Lewis has faced has been better than what Tybura has faced. I will take the underdog in this bout and go with Lewis.
