Smith vs. Rua
Smith is 29-13 in his career, including 5-3 in the UFC. He is coming off a knockout win over Rashad Evans in his last fight. He has 16 knockout wins in his career and 10 wins by submission. He has 16 first round finishes. In his 42 career fights, only three have gone to a decision. Smith is stepping in on somewhat short notice, as he is filling in for Volkan Oezdemir, but Smith is still listed as a solid favorite in this fight.
Smith is a violent striker who goes forward all the time. He either gets the knockout or he gets knocked out. Smith simply has not shown much defensive ability in his career, so it comes down to who gets the big shot in first.
Rua is 25-10 in his career, including 9-8 in the UFC. He is coming off a win against Gian Villante, but that fight was over a year ago. Rua has 20 knockout wins in his career and one submission win. He has 17 first round finishes. He has a style very similar to Smith, as he puts on a lot of pressure. Rua has slowed down with age, but he is still a very aggressive fighter.
Can you see anything other than a knockout one way or another in this fight? The styles of these two fighters should make the fight exciting, but it probably won’t last long. I think taking the rounds under the total is the best option in this bout.
Teixeira vs. Anderson
Teixeira is 27-6 in his career, including 10-4 in the UFC, while Anderson is 10-4 overall and 9-8 in the UFC. Teixeira has 17 knockout wins in his career and six wins by submission. He has 18 first round finishes. Teixeira is all about pressuring his opponents, but at 38-years old he has slowed down and opponents have been finding more openings.
Anderson is coming off a win against Patrick Cummins in April. He has four knockout wins and three first round finishes. Anderson will be taking this fight on somewhat short notice, as he fills in for Ilir Latifi. Anderson has a style of pressure, as he throws a lot of punches in short order. The problem for Anderson is that his aggressive style leaves him open to counter attacks.
Teixeira could be in line for a title shot if he keeps winning and although this fight looks to be close, I think Teixeira will get the win.
