UFC on FOX 30 on Saturday night in Calgary features Dustin Poirier vs. Eddie Alvarez and Jose Aldo vs. Jeremy Stephens. The fight between Poirier and Alvarez should be action packed, as the two fought at UFC 211 in May of last year and the bout was full of big shots.
There are a total of four fights on the main card on FOX and nine fights on the preliminary card with four on FOX and five on UFC Fight Pass. Let’s look at the card with a focus on Poirier vs. Alvarez and Aldo vs. Stephens.

Dustin Poirier -165 vs. Eddie Alvarez
The main event fight isn’t even for a title, but it could be one of the best main events that we have seen in the UFC in some time. Poirier is 23-5 in his career, including 15-4 in the UFC, while Alvarez is 29-5, including 4-2 in the UFC. These two met last year and it ended in a no-contest after Alvarez used illegal knees to the head of Poirier.
Alvarez is 34 years old and will be the oldest fighter on the card at UFC on FOX 30. He is 1-1 with the no-contest in his last three fights. It is pretty much all power for Alvarez, as 23 of his 29 wins have been by stoppage.
Poirier is 7-1 with a no-contest since he returned to the lightweight division. He is also a very powerful striker, with most of his wins coming by knockout. He has 10 stoppage victories since 2011.
This fight should be very entertaining for as long as it lasts. The price on the fight not going to a decision is high, but it is hard to see anything other than a knockout one way or the other. I will take the fight to be decided inside the distance.
Jose Aldo -125 vs. Jeremy Stephens
Aldo is 26-4 in his career, including 8-3 in the UFC, but he hasn’t looked that good lately, losing three of his last four fights. Stephens is 28-14 in his career, including 15-13 in the UFC. Stephens is in action more than any other fighter. He is actually making his 29th UFC appearance, tied for the most in UFC history. This will be his third fight this year.
The question in this fight is whether or not Aldo has anything left. Stephens sure doesn’t think so. "I'm going to go in there and expose Aldo for what he is," Stephens said to the media. "He hasn't evolved, he's on the decline. I just believe I'm better than him in every aspect of my game. Conor took his head, Max took his heart and I'm going to take a knife and dig into some meat and bone here."
Despite what Stephens said; Aldo is a former champion and is actually younger than Stephens. What has Stephens done in the UFC except lose more fights than anyone in history? I will take Aldo to get this win.
