2019 Copa America Peru vs Brazil Odds

Brazil and Peru will meet to determine the winner of Copa America’s Group A this Saturday. Brazil were heavy favorites to win this group at the start of the competition, but a frustrating draw against Venezuela left them tied with Peru on points entering both teams’ final match of the group stage. Each team is desperate to grab first as second place might have to face Argentina in the quarterfinals.

Recent Form

Any kind of result would give Brazil the group as they have a better goal differential than Peru.

It hasn’t been a great start to Copa America for the Selecao. They lost Neymar to an injury before the start of the tournament, and they weren’t able to break through against Bolivia in the first half. Philippe Coutinho fixed that by scoring twice in the second half, and Everton scored late to five Brazil a 3-0 win.

Meanwhile, the game between Brazil and Venezuela was an incredibly lackluster affair. Venezuela aimed to stall the game out as much as possible and they secured a 0-0 draw. Wuilker Farinez was incredible in goal for Venezuela, but Brazil were not sharp on offense. For all their possession and shots, they managed just one shot on net the entire match.

Peru were also flustered by Venezuela and held to a 0-0 draw in their match. Venezuela made more of an attempt for goal in that game, and the Incas had two goals called back for offside after VAR.

However, they were able to best Bolivia even after a penalty kick gave their opponent an early lead. Paolo Guerrero netted just before halftime to tie the match, and then Jefferson Farfan and Edison Flores scored in the second half to put Peru on the precipice of advancing. The Incas are likely through to the knockout rounds no matter what happens on Saturday.

Brazil Player to Watch

Without Neymar, Brazil are depending on another superstar to lead the way in Philippe Coutinho. Coutinho had a very disappointing season with Barcelona, but he has been the catalyst of the Selecao through the first two matches. He is immensely skilled at leading the attack, and he has a Swiss Army knife aspect to his game. Coutinho can fill in and do whatever his needed of him depending on tactics.

Peru Player to Watch

Flores is one of the young stars for Peru, so it was nice for him to get a goal late. Guerrero and Farfan are two of the oldest players at Copa America, and the Incas need players with young legs like Flores to create, especially later in matches. The Morelia midfielder and winger has tallied 12 goals for the national team, and he would love to add more.

Brazil vs. Peru Free Picks

Even though they were the favorites coming into Copa America as hosts, I don’t think this is a particularly great Brazil team. They have a bevy of talent, but it’s been hard to get that talent to come together and have chemistry.

Their major saving grace is this team has goalkeepers. Alisson is one of the best in the world, and he has two clean sheets through two matches for Brazil. The back line is much improved from what we have seen in recent years too, and that will be important here.

Brazil vs. Peru Prediction: Brazil 2, Peru 0
