2019 Copa America match Brazil and Venezuela

Brazil were heavy favorites to win Group A at this year’s Copa America prior to the start of the tournament. They are even bigger favorites now after blowing past Bolivia in their opener, while Venezuela and Peru settled for a draw. A win against Venezuela on Tuesday would send Brazil through to the knockout rounds, and oddsmakers have listed the hosts as sizable favorites per the soccer betting odds prior to this match. Anything less than a multiple goal victory for Brazil would be a surprise.

Recent Form

The Selecao are 21-2-2 all-time against Venezuela, but La Vinotinto have performed better in recent years. They have secured a result versus Brazil in three of their last seven matches dating back to 2008.

Venezuela had largely underwhelmed coming into Copa America. However, they scored a huge win last week over the United States in Cincinnati. Salomon Rondon created havoc and notched a brace for Venezuela, while Jefferson Savarino netted in between Rondon’s tallies to give La Vinotinto a 3-0 win.

Although the final statistics were relatively even in the match between Venezuela and Peru, Venezuela were quite fortunate to earn a draw. Peru had two goals called back because VAR ruled them to be slightly offside both times, and Venezuela had to hold on in the last 15 minutes after Luis Mago received a red card. Mago will miss this match due to the subsequent suspension.

Brazil were favorites to win Copa America before the start of the tournament although Neymar had been ruled out due to injury. They posted a record of 9-1-0 prior to the beginning of the competition and cruised in the second half against Bolivia.

Philippe Coutinho opened the scoring in the 50th minute off of a penalty kick, and he doubled Brazil’s lead just three minutes later. Everton added another just before fulltime for a 3-0 win.

Brazil Player to Watch

Richarlison is one in the next wave of great, young Brazilian footballers. He became Everton’s most expensive transfer last summer, and although his play was a big up and down, he largely impressed in his first season with the Toffees. Now, the 22-year-old is out to lead his country to a Copa America title, and he helped set up Coutinho’s second goal on Friday. Richarlison has five goals in 11 appearances with the national team.

Venezuela Player to Watch

Rondon is the leader of Venezuela, but for this team to really break through and pull off a stunner, another option has to emerge. The most likely candidate in that regard is Josef Martinez, and the reigning MLS Golden Boot winner with Atlanta United will need to play a whale of a game against Brazil. Martinez has just started to find his form domestically, so Venezuela is hoping to see that version here.

Brazil vs. Venezuela Free Picks

It’s difficult to imagine that Venezuela have a real chance to get a result. This team does have some nice attacking pieces in Rondon, Martinez, and Jhon Murillo, but there are uncertainties in the back line that Brazil will be able to exploit. Brazil have so much talent on the attack, and Venezuela are largely inexperienced in the back line aside from Roberto Rosales. That sounds like a recipe for failure, so trust the boys from Brazil. A two- or three-goal win seems very possible.

Brazil vs. Venezuela Prediction: Brazil 3, Venezuela 1
