Final Liverpool FC vs Manchester City Free Betting Odds

The two teams that enthralled England with an epic race for the league title last season will meet for the FA Community Shield on Sunday in London. Liverpool claimed the biggest prize of them all by winning the Champions League last season, but Manchester City became the first club to win the domestic treble by winning the Carabao Cup, FA Cup, and Premier League. City nipped Liverpool by a single point for the EPL title, so the Reds would love to turn the tables and get some more silverware.

Recent Form

It’s only preseason, but Liverpool have not fared well against top tier opponents. The Reds crushed Tranmere Rovers 6-0 and Bradford City 3-1 in mid-July, yet things took a turn for the worse after those wins. Liverpool lost to Borussia Dortmund and Sevilla FC and had to settle for a draw with Sporting Lisbon. They were hammered 3-0 by Napoli last weekend too before finally turning it around by overcoming an early deficit to beat Lyon 3-1 on Wednesday.

The Citizens failed to add another trophy to their overburdened mantle last month. Manchester City went to Asia for the preseason and took part in the Premier League Asia tournament, but they were unable to come out on top. They had no trouble beating West Ham in their first match, yet pesky Wolverhampton held them scoreless in the final match and then bested them in penalties. City were able to beat Hong Kong club Kitchee and Japanese club Yokohama by a combined margin of 9-2 last week though.

Notable Absences

We won’t see Sadio Mane take part in this match for Liverpool. The Senegal national led his team to the Africa Cup of Nations Final just two weeks ago, and he is still on leave as a result. Mane may or may not play against Norwich City in the Premier League in the opener. Nathaniel Clyne will miss at least the next six months after tearing his ACL in the friendly against Borussia Dortmund.

Benjamin Mendy will miss at least another month for Manchester City due to a knee injury, while oft-injured Fernandinho is on the injury list and will miss this match too.

Manchester City Player to Watch

The Citizens made one big signing this offseason, bringing in Rodri from Atletico Madrid. Rodri is a physical defensive midfielder that City were keen to acquire, and he has already been heralded as the perfect replacement for Fernandinho. He will get the chance to prove his value against a very talented Liverpool squad.

Liverpool FC Player to Watch

Virgil van Dijk was named the FA Player of the Year last season, and the Liverpool center back is going to have a busy day against City. The Citizens are going to keep pushing forward, and it will be up to van Dijk and Devan Lovren to hold them at bay. The Dutch national was very sharp last season, and he looks set to be added to FIFA’s Team of the Year.

FA Community Shield Final Free Picks

Although both sides have a lot of offensive firepower, I think the goalkeepers will ensure that this game stays low scoring. These teams combined for three goals in two matches last season, and more of that is in store.

FA Community Shield Final Prediction: Manchester City 1, Liverpool FC 1
