These two clubs met in the Champions League Round of 16 last year. Over the course of two legs, Barcelona won on aggregate 4-1 with Lionel Messi being the maestro that led the way. Messi notched a crucial road goal at Stamford Bridge, and he netted a brace at Camp Nou to put Chelsea to bed. Chelsea’s Willian and Barca’s Ousmane Dembele were the other two goal scorers.

New Faces – Barcelona

Neymar hasn’t rejoined the Blaugrana yet, but the tabloids are rife with speculation that he will join the club before the start of the Soccer season. The Brazilian forward left for Paris Saint-Germain in 2017, but after two years in France he is rumored to be ready to head back to La Liga.

Barca has already made a huge splash this offseason though, and Neymar would almost be overkill at this point. They made the second-largest signing of the summer when they spent 120 million Euros to nab Antoine Griezmann away from league rival Atletico Madrid. Luis Suarez is starting to decline, so Griezmann will give the Blaugrana a forward in his prime.

Frenkie de Jong was the other big signing that Barcelona made. He was the star of the young Ajax team that nearly knocked off Tottenham Hotspur to make the Champions League Final, and now he gets to learn under the wing of the best midfielder in the world. Goalkeeper Neto was signed too, and all three players are expected to be in action on Tuesday.

Key Departures – Barcelona

In order to make those big signings, Barcelona needed to move some other players. Goalkeeper Jesper Cillessen is now with Valencia, midfielder Andre Gomes moved to Everton, midfielder Denis Suarez moved to Celta Vigo, and forward Paco Alcacer is now a part of Borussia Dortmund.

New Faces – Chelsea

A transfer ban has kept Chelsea from being active this summer, and that will really hurt their hopes of finishing in the top four in the Premier League. However, before the ban went into effect, they were able to complete the Christian Pulisic transfer.

Pulisic will give Chelsea some much needed young talent in the midfield. The American phenom has shown plenty of potential, and the expectations are very lofty for a player that’s still so raw.

Club legend Frank Lampard was hired to replace Maurizio Sarri in the summer. Lampard led Derby County to the Championship Playoffs in his first season as a manager, and that impressive accomplishment was enough for Roman Abramovich to offer him the full-time job at Chelsea.

Key Departures – Chelsea

Not having Eden Hazard is really going to hurt the Blues. Hazard did it all for Chelsea, and without a reliable No. 9 to score goals, he did that too. His 16 goals were double the number of the second-most prolific goal scorer on the team, and his 15 assists were 2.5x more than his next-closest teammate. There is a massive hole where Chelsea’s No. 10 used to be.

What to Watch

Soccer Preseason games are generally unexciting affairs, but Lampard will be deploying a new lineup. N’Golo Kante is going to move back into his role of being Chelsea’s defensive midfielder, while Jorginho shits into a different role. Sarri’s decision to swap out Kante for Jorginho never made much sense and was constantly derided.

Match Prediction

These games are typically a toss-up, but newer managers are more keen to win them. Chelsea are likely going to be an underdog when the soccer betting line opens, so pounce on the Blues.
