MLS Cup Finals Free Betting Picks

By Jonathan Willis The Seattle Sounders have only claimed the MLS Cup once in their history, but this has perennially been one of the best teams in the league. Seattle has qualified for the postseason in each of its 11 seasons in the MLS, and the Sounders have never finished worse than fourth in the Western Conference. They have shed the moniker of postseason choke artists with their recent performance in the postseason, and they are now looking for their second title against Toronto FC.   More

  • Atlanta United FC are odds-on favorites per the soccer betting odds to make it back to the MLS Cup Final. Last year’s MLS Cup winners are out to defend their title, and they will take on the 2017 league champions for Eastern Conference supremacy. Toronto FC have shrugged off an awful 2018 to rejoin the elite clubs in the MLS. They beat Atlanta 3-2 north of the border in late June, but the Five Stripes beat them 2-0 in Atlanta earlier in the year.   More

  • The first MLS Cup finalist will be determined on Tuesday night when Los Angeles FC hosts the Seattle Sounders in the Western Conference Finals. LAFC are heavy favorites to advance to their first MLS Cup Final per the soccer betting odds, while the Sounders are out to get back to the MLS Cup Final for the third time in four seasons. These teams squared off in back-to-back weeks in April, and while Seattle played LAFC to a 1-1 in the Emerald City, the Western Conference champions hammered the Sounders 4-1 in Banc of California Stadium.   More

  • The Western Conference Semifinals will have plenty of fireworks this week. The Seattle Sounders will take on Real Salt Lake on Wednesday, October 23, at 10 p.m. ET on FS1, but the match everyone is hyped for will be the following night. El Trafico will determine one of the spots in the Western Conference Finals as Los Angeles FC host the Los Angeles Galaxy at 10:30 p.m. ET on ESPN. An LAFC defeat after the best regular season in MLS history would be a bitter pill to swallow but losing to your city rival would feel even worse.   More

  • The chalk held up in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs this weekend. All three home teams won to advance to the conference semifinals this week, proving the importance of home field advantage. The Eastern Conference Semifinals will start on Wednesday night with No. 1 New York City FC hosting Toronto FC at 7 p.m. ET on FS1, and defending champions Atlanta United will host the Philadelphia Union at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN2 this Thursday night.   More

  • Six teams are vying to send a shock through the MLS over the next two weeks. Los Angeles FC were the best team we have ever seen in the league during the regular season, losing just four matches the entire campaign. They have home field advantage throughout the postseason after winning the Supporter’s Shield, and they are odds-on favorites to win the Western Conference per the MLS betting odds. The winner of Sunday’s match between Minnesota United FC and the Los Angeles Galaxy will get the first crack at LAFC, while the four teams playing on Saturday won’t face the best team in the league until the Western Conference Finals.   More

  • The Eastern Conference has provided the last two MLS Cup Champions, and both of those teams will be in action during the first round of the MLS Cup playoffs. Defending champions Atlanta United open the festivities with a home match against the New England Revolution, and the Five Stripes are the biggest favorites of the week per the MLS betting odds. The second-biggest favorites are the 2017 champions, Toronto FC, and they will look to send Wayne Rooney back to England on a sour note.   More

MLS Cup Playoff Betting Odds Preview

By Jonathan Willis There have been some major changes to the MLS playoff format, and that will greatly benefit Los Angeles FC and New York City FC. Both clubs will have first-round byes as the top team in their respected conferences, and they are prime to take advantage of the new structure.   More

  • The end is near. There is just one game left for each team in the MLS this season, and there are four teams fighting for the final two postseason spots. The Portland Timbers, San Jose Earthquakes, Colorado Rapids, and FC Dallas are all hoping to grab one of those berths, but two of these teams will be found wanting after a seven-month long regular season. That will make for an exciting last day of games.   More

  • The Portland Timbers looked set to move into a commanding position in the Western Conference playoff race a few months ago. Portland was in the top seven and with virtually nothing but home games left, the Timbers seemed set to get the points needed to not only make the playoffs but host a first-round game. However, the Timbers have shockingly lost four of their last six home games, putting their postseason hopes in jeopardy. They are now one point behind both San Jose and FC Dallas for the final playoff spot, so they need a win on Sunday against Minnesota United FC.   More

  • We’re in the final few weeks of the MLS season, and the San Jose Earthquakes’ postseason hopes are coming down to the wire. San Jose has just a one-point edge on FC Dallas for the last playoff spot, and the Earthquakes will face four probable playoff teams in their final four games. They are in desperate need of a result on the road against defending MLS Cup champions Atlanta United, but the Five Stripes aren’t willing to concede anything even though a return to the playoffs has been ensured.   More

  • The Portland Timbers are looking to bolster their playoff chances when they host DC United on Sunday afternoon. Portland is currently in sixth place in the Western Conference standings, but the Timbers are tied on points with FC Dallas and only have a one-point edge over the Los Angeles Galaxy. They are sizable favorites per the MLS betting odds against DC United, who have really struggled after a promising start.   More

  • FC Dallas are in desperate need of a win when they travel to the Windy City to take on the Chicago Fire on Saturday. Dallas are currently ahead of the Los Angeles Galaxy by just one point in the race for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference, but they have played one more game than most other teams in contention for the postseason. That means they have fewer chances to make up ground if they stumble, so every point is huge in the final month of the season. These two rivals meet for the Brimstone Cup every season.   More

  • New York City FC have been a regular season team since they were founded in 2016. NYCFC have started the season strong, only to flail out over the last few months in each of their previous three campaigns. The club finished 2nd, 2nd, and 3rd in the Eastern Conference from 2016 to 2018, but the team was bounced in the Eastern Conference Semifinals each season. NYCFC are hoping to break free of their past by finishing atop the East this season, earning an automatic bye and then having the chance to vanquish their postseason demons. They can move into first place with a victory over the New England Revolution on Saturday.   More

  • Los Angeles FC have been the best club in the MLS by a mile this season. Ahead of their match with rival Los Angeles Galaxy on Sunday night, LAFC have 61 points on the season, and that’s 13 more points than the next-best team in the race for the Supporter’s Shield. That has led to the club being installed at nearly even odds to win the MLS Cup. However, quite often the best team in the regular season doesn’t win the title because of the random nature of the playoffs.   More

  • Los Angeles FC might be the best team we’ve ever seen in the MLS. LAFC are an incredible 19-3-4 this season, and they are already 16 points clear of the field in the race to win the Supporters’ Shield. They have already clinched a playoff spot, and the club also currently has more points than any team in the league did last year and it has eight more games to play. The only thing that LAFC have been unable to do is beat rival Los Angeles Galaxy in the El Trafico rivalry.   More

  • It’s rivalry week in the MLS, and that means we’ll see the two New York teams square off in the Hudson River Derby. New York City FC will host rival New York Red Bulls in the second meeting between these two teams this season. NYCFC are 3-0-1 in the last four games in Yankee Stadium in this series, but the Red Bulls have dominated the derby overall. The Red Bulls are 9-4-2 since these sides first faced each other during the 2015 season.   More

  • The best rivalry in the MLS has been the one between the Portland Timbers and the Seattle Sounders. The Pacific Northwest is a hotbed for soccer, and these two teams (along with the Vancouver Whitecaps) square off for the Cascadia Cup every season. On Friday, we’ll see the final tilt of the derby and one of these two teams will claim the trophy. Portland will win the Cascadia Cup with any result, while Seattle need a victory to win it.   More

  • When Atlanta United came into the league in 2017, they instantly set about creating a rivalry against Orlando City SC. As the only two teams in the southeast, a rivalry was natural, but we have not seen any sort of competition in this rivalry. Atlanta has won five of the six games between these two sides and the lone non-victory was a draw in the Five Stripes’ inaugural season. Atlanta has shut out Orlando City in four of those matches, and it will look to do so again on Thursday.   More

  • Minnesota United FC are on the cusp of making the postseason for the first season in franchise history. The Loons sit in second place in the Western Conference, and they are five points clear of FC Dallas for the final playoff spot with only two months left in the season. However, they will be short-handed going into their match with Sporting Kansas City on Thursday, and they are underdogs per the MLS betting odds.   More

  • This Sunday, we’ll see a rematch of the 2018 MLS Cup Final when the Portland Timbers host Atlanta United. Atlanta beat Portland for its first title last season, stopping an incredible Timbers run through the postseason. Portland looks even better this year, and although the club is in eighth place in the Western Conference, they play 10 of their last 11 games at home and should rocket up the standings. They will be out for a small dose of revenge here.   More

  • The race for the top spot in the Western Conference is essentially over at this point. Los Angeles FC are 16 points clear of the field, but the Los Angeles Galaxy and Seattle Sounders are two of the teams vying to finish second and third to avoid playing LAFC in the conference semifinals. Seattle are currently in second place with 39 points this season, while the Galaxy are just two points behind them. However, the race is tight as six teams are within three points of each other out west. That has both clubs vying to win this game.   More

  • The reining MLS Cup champions are looking to repeat, and they are in good position in the Eastern Conference. Atlanta United currently sit in second place in the East, and the Five Stripes are looking to improve on their conference-best home record against New York City FC. Atlanta have lost just once at home this season, and NYCFC have one of the better road records in the league. The visitors have lost just four times this season.   More

  • The New York Red Bulls will look to do what no team has done yet in the MLS this season this weekend. Los Angeles FC are 9-0-1 at home this campaign and the one blemish was a 0-0 draw back in May. They have won all four of their home games since that point with three of those four victories coming by two goals or more. That will make this a tall task for the Red Bulls, who will be making their first trip west of the Continental Divide this season.   More

  • Wayne Rooney’s time in the MLS is coming to an end. Since coming to the MLS, the English legend has been sensational. He helped lead DC United out of the cellar after coming over in the middle of the 2018 season, lifting the club to an unlikely playoff appearance, and he was instrumental in their hot start this year. On Sunday, he will share the field with another European legend for the last time when DC United host Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s Los Angeles Galaxy.   More
