Manchester City are looking to match their city rival by winning three Premier League titles in a row. The Citizens have had two straight incredible seasons, and they are looking to make it three in a row with a win over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
These clubs met four times last season, twice in the Premier League and twice in the Champions League. In Premier League action, Manchester City knocked off Spurs 1-0 in both meetings, scoring very early in both matches and holding on from there. However, in Champions League action it was another story. Spurs won the first leg of their quarterfinals tie 1-0 and then ended up losing 4-3 in the second leg to advance on away goals.

Spurs had a bit of a tough time getting past newly promoted Aston Villa in the opener. They allowed a goal in the first 10 minutes, and Villa decided to settle in and defend from there. Tottenham had an abundance of opportunities, firing 31 shots and controlling the ball for 71 percent of the match, but they were unable to get on the score sheet until Tanguy Ndombele created a little bit of magic. He leveled the score in the 73rd minute and Harry Kane notched a double from there to give Spurs a 3-1 win.
There were no such problems for Manchester City in their opener against a West Ham team that everyone expects to be solid. Gabriel Jesus scored midway through the first half, but the game opened up in the second half. Raheem Sterling notched a brace and Sergio Aguero tacked on another in a 5-0 romp of the Hammers.
Not having Son Heung-min for this match is a tough pill to swallow for Spurs. Son’s suspension as a result of a red card from last year was upheld, and he will miss the match as a result. He scored three of Tottenham’s four goals against City last campaign, so his absence stings. Spurs will also be without Dele Alli, Ryan Sessegnon, and Juan Marcos Foyth because of injury. Ben Davies is listed as questionable.
City will be without Leroy Sane for at least the next six months as he recovers from a torn ACL he suffered in the FA Community Shield Final against Liverpool. The club will also be without Benjamin Mendy as he rehabs a knee injury. Joao Cancelo and Fernandinho are questionable in this match.
Tottenham Hotspur Player to Watch
Ndombele was Tottenham’s most expensive transfer ever, and he made his mark in the opener. His goal against Aston Villa was a beautiful one, and he has not reached his potential according to Mauricio Pochettino. Ndombele believes that he is not in his best form as he adapts to the Premier League, so he could be even better as the season goes on.
Manchester City Player to Watch
Raheem Sterling’s hat trick has him out in front in the race for the Golden Boot. The forward has made some massive strides over the last year, and he is starting to live up to the potential he displayed as a younger player. He could make his mark felt on Spurs’ back line.
English Premier League Free Picks
Three of the four matches between these two sides last season saw just one goal scored, so I’ll go with the under here. Pochettino and Spurs will be more conservative than usual, and that has me believing they will cover the Asian handicap line.
English Premier League Prediction: Manchester City 1, Tottenham Hotspur 0
