The Wolverhampton Wanderers are still searching for their first win of the season. Wolves were a popular dark horse to potentially qualify for European play next season after spending loads of money during the summer transfer window, but they are 0-1-1 after their first two games.
Unfortunately for them, things aren’t about to get any easier as Manchester City come to town. City are at the top of table and continuing to dominate the Premier League just like they did en route to winning the league last year.

Manchester City were heavy favorites to repeat as Premier League champions according to the oddsmakers, and they have not disappointed. City started off the year with a comfortable 2-0 win over Chelsea to grab another piece of silverware, the FA Community Shield. They began their Premier League campaign with a 2-0 win over Arsenal as well before facing Huddersfield Town last week.
City had no problem with Huddersfield Town, thrashing the club 6-1 in a laugher. Sergio Aguero notched his 13th career hat trick in the match, and City controlled every part of the game. The club outshot Huddersfield 32 to 5, put more shots on net by a margin of 14 to 1, and they controlled the ball for 77 percent of the match. It’s nearly impossible to lose with stats like that.
As for Wolverhampton, they have had great chances to get three points in each of their first two matches. Against Everton, Wolves had the better chances and were up a man for over 50 minutes. Still, they allowed a goal and managed to only secure a draw despite those big advantages.
Things went even worse for Wolves against Leicester City last weekend. Wolves had some great opportunities and were the better team for most of the match. However, they hit the post on three separate occasions, and they got some bad breaks too. The first goal they allowed was an own goal that Matt Doherty accidentally headed into the back of his net. The misfortune was doubled just before half as a shot deflected off a Wolves defender and made it 2-0. That ended up being the final, and Wolves were certainly disappointed.
Manchester City are not going to have a number of players for this match. Reserve goalkeeper Claudio Bravo, defender Eliaquim Mangala, and center back Philippe Sandler are all considered long-term injuries and will be out for a stretch longer. Left back Danilo is out for an indefinite amount of time with an ankle injury as well, though he could return as early as next month. Midfielder Kevin de Bruyne is the biggest star on this list, and he is out for the next three months because of a knee injury.
Things aren’t nearly as bad for Wolves on this front. Forward Ivan Cavaleiro will be sidelined for this tilt because of a lower back injury, but he is the only scratch for the club. Midfielder Leander Dendocker is listed as questionable and will be a game-time decision, while right back Matt Doherty is expected to play through a lower leg injury.

Until they lose, you can’t go against Manchester City. Pep Guardiola has constructed a juggernaut, and even with the injuries, the team’s considerable depth gives them a major advantage here. I think Wolves will be able to put one on the board, but City will rule the day in a comfortable win.
English Premier League Prediction: Manchester City 3, Wolverhampton Wanderers 1
