Arsenal is heavily favored on Sunday as they visit Cardiff City in a game that can be seen on NBCSN. The Gunners have started the season with a win and two losses, while Cardiff has two draws and a loss. Arsenal started the season with two very difficult games, as they were beaten by Manchester City and Chelsea, but they bounced back to beat West Ham last week.
Cardiff lost to Bournemouth in the opener and then played scoreless draws against Newcastle and Huddersfield. Let’s look at this match on Sunday and soccer predictions.

Arsenal didn’t play that badly in their first two games, but they were beaten 2-0 by Manchester City and 3-2 by Chelsea. Both of those teams are considered title contenders, so the losses were not totally unexpected. The Gunners did bounce back with a good 3-1 win over West Ham United last time out. Arsenal should be able to continue their good play against an overmatched Cardiff squad.
Cardiff has yet to score a goal in the Premier League this season and now they have to play Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City in their next three games. Manager Neil Warnock is already telling fans to try and just enjoy the action.
“It will be so difficult for us in the next few weeks, but we’ve got a great bunch, a great set of fans and we’ve just got to enjoy it,” Warnock said to the media, “I’ve got to come up with a recipe to give our fans something to cheer about during the game. I think we’ve got to do the best we can to get the crowd on their feet. That’s what we are here for, that’s what we got promoted for, and I don’t think we should miss out on that. We’ve got to take the Premier League onboard and enjoy it.”
Cardiff will be without winger Nathaniel Mendez-Laing who suffered a posterior cruciate ligament knee injury last week. Mendez-Laing is expected to miss the next three months. Cardiff may also be without winger Junior Hoilett who is trying to come back from a groin injury.
The referee for Sunday’s match will be Anthony Taylor. He was the ref last season when Chelsea was awarded a penalty against Arsenal in a 2-2 draw. Arsenal has also lost the last two matches with Taylor as ref, as they were beaten by Newcastle United and Tottenham. Going back a little further, it is not all bad for Arsenal with Taylor as ref. They have won 14 of 24 games with Taylor as ref, with six draws and four losses.
Arsenal and Cardiff met twice in the Premier League in the 2013-2014 season with Arsenal winning by scores of 2-0 and 3-0. Arsenal is unbeaten in the last five meetings overall going back to 2006. Cardiff was shut out in four of those five matches.
Arsenal vs. Cardiff City Free Picks
I can’t make any case for taking Cardiff in this match, as they simply haven’t been able to score. Perhaps they will get their first goal of the Premier League season on Sunday, but I don’t think it will matter, as I expect Arsenal to get at least three. I will lay the price on the three-way line and take Arsenal and I also will play the game over 2.5.
