Soccer Sports Betting

Crystal Palace is coming off a loss to Liverpool, but they played well and if not for a questionable penalty, they could have come away with a draw. Palace has Wilfried Zaha, but they still need to find more offense. Palace was expecting to get great play from Christian Benteke, but so far they have not gotten much from him. If Palace is to be a serious contender for an upper table finish they need Benteke to start scoring goals.

Watford is coming off an impressive win at Burnley, a win that was extremely important for Watford, as it was their first road win in their last 13 games. Captain Troy Deeney played well and Watford came away with a 3-1 win. Deeney has shown early in the season that he is the key player to the Hornet’s success.

Player to Watch

The player to watch in this game is Crystal Palace’s Christian Benteke. Palace spent a ton of money to get Benteke and he needs to deliver. Manager Roy Hodgson has been patient with Benteke, but that patience may be wearing thin, but overall, Hodgson said he is pleased to be 1-1 on the season. “Our target is to continue to try and improve, to try and get better, try and make certain we are not looking over our shoulder all the time from the relegation zone upwards and I think in the first two games I’ve got to be more than satisfied with what the team has shown,” he said to Standard Sport.

Key Stats

I don’t look at the officials that much when it comes to soccer, but every now and then we get a nugget or two. Anthony Taylor will be the official for this match on Sunday. He was the referee for four Watford games last season. Watford lost two of those four games, with one win and one draw. The interesting part is that three of the four games were very high scoring and went over the total.

These teams have a long history and a lot of the matches have been tight. Crystal Palace has 49 wins, Watford has 27 wins and the teams have played to 41 draws. Crystal Palace has won three of the last five meetings, with two draws. Three of the five went under the soccer betting total.

Crystal Palace vs. Watford Free Picks

I am very tempted to take a shot with Palace on the three-way line at odds of almost 2-1. I think Palace is the better team and that there is some definite value on them at +190. The better bet though may be on the draw, as this game is at Watford and the teams almost always seem to play close games. I will take the draw at +215. The other option to consider is simply taking Palace at +1/2 goal and laying the money.
