Premier League Manchester United vs Brighton & Hove Albion

Manchester United will be looking to start the season 2-0, as they visit Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday. United was able to come away with a tough 2-1 win over Leicester City last week, while Brighton was beaten 2-0 at Watford. United still has injury concerns, so they will not be at full strength for this road contest. Let’s look at the game and soccer predictions.

Manchester United was without six injured players last week in the win over Leicester City and manager Jose Mourinho doesn’t expect any of those players back this week. Sergio Romero, Antonio Valencia, Diogo Dalot, Marcos Rojo, Ander Herrera and Nemanja Matic all missed last week’s 2-1 win. Mourinho does expect his team to be better however, as many players who were at the World Cup will have had more time to prepare. Ashley Young could see his first action of the season.

Soccer Sports Betting

“I think we will have the same players [as against Leicester],” Mourinho said to the media, “I think the injured players aren’t going to be back for Brighton. What we have is Paul [Pogba] with nine days' training, [Marcus] Rashford with 11 days' training, [Marouane] Fellaini with nine days' training and, of course, they will be in a better condition.

The Seagulls struggled in their opener, losing 2-0 at Watford. Manager Chris Hughton said that captain Bruno could miss this game with a hamstring injury. He was taken off last week and replaced by Gaetan Bong. It could be that Hughton decides to give some of his newcomers more playing time including Alireza Jahanbakhsh and Yves Bissouma. Both came off the bench last week.

Player to Watch

The player to watch on Sunday could be United striker Romelu Lukaku. He came off the bench last week and played the last 23 minutes against Leicester City. He should get more playing time this week and there is a good chance he will be in the starting lineup. Lukaku is the main scoring option for United and his return to the starting lineup is huge. He scored 27 goals for United across all competitions last season.

Key Stats

These teams have met just three times since 1993 and only twice in Premier League play. Each team pulled out wins at home last season by scores of 1-0. The teams also played in the FA Cup and it was Manchester United winning by a score of 2-0.

Manchester United vs. Brighton & Hove Albion Free Picks

Brighton played well against United in both of their matches last season, winning 1-0 at home and losing 1-0 at Old Trafford. The interesting part about both of those matches and the meeting in the FA Cup is that neither team was able to do much on offense. I am tempted to take a shot on Brighton at the big plus money on the three-way line, but I don’t know if Brighton can score two goals against United. The draw is also tempting at odds of over 2-1, but I think the best choice is to simply play the game to go under. The teams combined in their three games last year to score a total of four goals. I will go under the total in this contest.
