There is a clear delineation of power in Serie A through the first third of the season, and it will be interesting to see if that holds over the course of the campaign. Juventus are head and shoulders in front of the pack, but a second tier has emerged that is breaking away from the rest of the teams in Serie A. Napoli and Inter Milan are currently in second and third place in the table, and they have five points on the rest of the field headed into this weekend’s matches. There is a crowded field looking to catch them behind those two, and AS Roma will have a good chance to narrow the gap at home against Inter Milan this weekend.

AS Roma are currently in seventh place in the Serie A standings, and that has them even outside of a spot in the Europa League at this point. They are only four points behind city rivals Lazio for fourth place though, and they will be out to cut into that gap here. Roma have not fared well in recent weeks. Over their last five domestic matches, they have just one win to their name, knocking off Sampdoria 4-1 prior to the international break. Roma can be proud of a draw on the road against Napoli, but a draw against Fiorentina and losses to Udinese and SPAL (the latter at home) have sent this team down in the table. At least, they are still playing well in the Champions League and have already qualified for the knockout rounds.
At this point of the season, Inter Milan find themselves in a pretty nice spot. They are 9-1-3 and just one point behind Napoli for second place. Inter have looked very good over the past two months, and over the last month they have knocked off Lazio, Genoa, and Frosinone by at least three goals each. Unfortunately, a loss to Atalanta kept them from jumping Napoli in the standings, and they got more bad news in the Champions League this weekend. A loss to Tottenham means they need to pour in the goals against PSV Eindhoven to move ahead in that competition.
This is the time of year where injuries start to take a toll on a team, and Roma have felt those knocks mount over the last month. They have six players on the injury report coming into this match. No one is definitively scratched, but Diego Perotti and Javier Pastore are each doubtful due to calf injuries, and Edin Dzeko, Stephan El Shaarawy, Daniele De Rossi, and Lorenzo Pellegrini are all questionable.
Inter won’t have Dalbert Henrique available for this match as he is dealing with a calf injury. Additionally, Sime Vrsaljko is unlikely to play and Radja Nainggolan’s status is up in the air. Nainggolan came off the pitch against Tottenham with an ankle issue, and no word has been issued on his status ahead of this one.
Player to Watch
Cengiz Under can’t wait to return to the pitch. In Roma’s tilt with Real Madrid on Tuesday, he missed a wide open net and immediately became the internet’s whipping boy because of it. Under has been one of Roma’s best players this season, but it was a bad miss and it stunned the crowd at the Stadio Olimpico.

The injury situation with Roma is leading me to go against the hometown team here. I look for Inter to take full advantage and strengthen their position, leaving Roma to bemoan their fate.
AS Roma vs. Inter Milan Prediction: Inter Milan 2, AS Roma 1
