Lazio have spent this week cursing their luck. They are in eighth place with a 9-5-7 record, but they are just three points behind AC Milan for fourth place and a potential spot in next year’s Champions League. The Eagles were nearly level with Milan coming into this Monday’s match against Frosinone though. They took on undefeated league leaders Juventus over the weekend, and it looked like they would pull off a stunning upset for a while. Lazio went up 1-0 after an Emre Can own goal, and the Canaries held that lead late. Unfortunately, they couldn’t hold on and allowed an equalizer and conceded a late penalty to miss out on a result.

This is Frosinone’s first season in Serie A. The Canaries are a small club in central Italy that has been in the third tier of Italian football for most of their history, and they surprised a number of people by winning promotion last year. Unfortunately, their fees are being realized, and they are currently in position to be relegated. Frosinone are in 19th place, and they are four points behind Empoli with a 2-7-12 record. They did pick up a huge 4-0 road win against Bologna last week, but that was largely due to a red card for Bologna in the 13th minute.
The silver lining for Lazio is that they are done playing the two best teams in Italy. They have lost their last two Serie A matches to Napoli and Juventus, so they don’t have to deal with either team again over their last 17 matches. Before those two defeats they had secured a result in three straight matches.
There are a number of players that may be missing for Frosinone here. Francesco Cassata has been suspended for one match due to yellow card accumulation, while Federico Dionisi and Emil Hallfredsson have been ruled out due to injury. Raman Chibsah, Edoardo Goldaniga, and Mirko Gori are each listed as doubtful, and Lorenzo Ariaudo, Francesco Zampano, and Nicolo Brighenti are all questionable to play.
The visitors won’t have the services of Sergej Milinkovic-Savic for this game because of card accumulation. Luiz Felipe and Adam Marusic are both listed as doubtful to play, while Bruno Jordao is considered questionable. At least Francesco Acerbi will come back after being suspended for one match.
Frosinone Player to Watch
Camillo Ciano is Frosinone’s leading scorer this season. Ciano has found the back of the net six times, and he was able to notch a brace in his club’s win over Bologna over the weekend. His play has been a bright spot in a dismal year, as no one else on the team has more than three goals. A goal here would be huge and could get Frosinone a needed result.
Lazio Player to Watch
Ciro Immobile is one of the top strikers in Serie A. He has notched 11 goals in 21 matches this year, but he has been in a bit of a drought recently. Immobile has notched just one goal in his last six appearances.
Frosinone vs. Lazio Free Picks
These two sides met in the third week of the season and Lazio picked up a 1-0 win. Luis Alberto scored the game’s lone goal in the 49th minute and Lazio controlled the ball for two-thirds of the match. This match will be more high scoring as Frosinone’s back line has struggled a bit, so I’m going to call for a multiple goal Lazio victory.
Frosinone vs. Lazio Prediction: Lazio 3, Frosinone 1
