There are going to be plenty of ramifications when Lazio and AC Milan square off on Sunday evening in Italy’s capital. Lazio and AC Milan are out to grab spots in the Champions League after missing out and being sent to the Europa League instead last season, and Lazio are currently sitting in fourth
place while AC Milan are in fifth. This will be a chance for both sides to pick up three points and a potential tiebreaker if it comes down to it.

It’s been a good start to the season for Lazio. They have already locked up a spot in the knockout rounds of the Europa League, and that will free some starters up for full-time domestic action rather than the juggling act that other teams must do. Lazio are sitting in fourth place currently with a record of 7-1-4, but they have yet to prove themselves against other top teams in Serie A. They have lost to Napoli, Juventus, Roma, and Inter Milan, but the good news is they have been relentless against everyone else. AC Milan are one point behind Lazio in Serie A with a 6-3-3 mark through 12 games. Much like Lazio, they have not been able to assert their authority over most of the other top teams, but they did pick up a big three points against Roma earlier in the season. They have won three of their last four domestic matches ahead of this one, but they are duking it out with Real Betis and Olympiakos for the right to advance in the Europa League.
Lazio are dealing with a few injuries ahead of this important match. Riza Durmisi is listed as questionable after contracting the flu during the international break, and Lucas Leiva is a game time decision due to a groin injury. Felipe Caicedo has returned to training and looks to make his return to the pitch here, but Sergej Milinkovic-Savic may be held out due to a lingering injury and a possible sale to another club. Those injuries are nothing like what AC Milan are dealing with though. Giacomo Bonaventura has been lost for the year after tearing his ACL, and three others have been ruled out until early 2019. Mateo Pablo Musacchio, Mattia Caldara, and Lucas Biglia will all miss significant time, and Alessio Romagnoli is out for at least another few weeks. Additionally, Hakan Calhanoglu and Emanuele Torrasi may not play due to injury, and Ivan Strinic continues to be held out for observation due to a heart condition.

AC Milan’s Suso is currently leading the league in assists, and fortunately for the club he has escaped the injury curse to this point. He has been linked to a move to another team following his hot start, but he seems to have quashed those rumors to focus on the task at hand. Suso has eight assists through 12 matches, and that puts him three up on anyone else in Serie A. His dashing runs down the side have set up Gonzalo Higauin and Franck Kessie, and he has also shown a scoring flair with four goals of his own to this point.
Lazio vs. AC Milan Free Picks
The over is the best bet in this match as these two teams won’t be afraid to push forward on the attack, but I’ll take Lazio for the side given AC Milan’s injury issues. It’s hard to overcome so many injuries in such a short period of time.
Lazio vs. AC Milan Prediction: Lazio 2, AC Milan 1
