Serie A Match Odds and Soccer Analysis

Both Milan clubs suffered 1-0 losses over the weekend, and the race for Serie A’s last two Champions League spots is heating up. Capital clubs Lazio and Roma, and hard-charging Atalanta, are all within four points of the top four. Those three clubs are all favored to win this week, and it will be up to AC Milan and Inter Milan to stay ahead of the pack.

At the other end of the table, Chievo Verona are certain to be relegated and Frosinone are probably set to drop too. That last relegation spot is up in the air though and teams are scratching and clawing to avoid the drop. Bologna scored a huge win to move into safety and ahead of Empoli last weekend, so now Empoli will look to leapfrog Bologna and catch Udinese or SPAL.

AC Milan are in fourth place in the table after Gianluigi Donnarumma made a huge mistake in the back over the weekend. The promising young goalkeeper has been largely solid for the club this season, but in the first 30 seconds of action, he kicked the ball right to Sampdoria’s Gregoire Defrel, who put it right into the back of Milan’s net. It was the lone goal in a defeat, and he will need to put that performance behind him.

The Old Lady are going to win their eighth straight Serie A title, but Juventus are in a very precarious spot this week. They don’t have Cristiano Ronaldo available, and the offense was not that impressive last week in a 1-0 win over Empoli. Cagliari have the best home field advantage in Serie A, as they play on the island of Sardinia, and that has helped them get a result in 12 of 14 home games.

  • AS Roma -0.5 vs. ACF Fiorentina, O/U 2.5 and 3
  • SPAL 2013 +0.5 and +1 vs. Lazio Roma, O/U 2.5
  • FC Torino PK and -0.5 vs. Sampdoria Genoa, O/U 2 and 2.5
  • Genoa FC +0.5 vs. Inter Milan, O/U 2 and 2.5
  • Frosinone Calcio PK -126 vs. Parma Calcio 1913, O/U 2 and 2.5
  • FC Empoli +1 and +1.5 vs. SSC Napoli, O/U 3

The match between Torino and Sampdoria could eventually determine a Europa League spot. These two teams are just three points behind the stalking pack, and a win for one side would put them in contention with the other clubs. Torino has been great at home this season with an 8-1-5 record, but Sampdoria boast the league’s top scorer in Fabio Quagliarella.

Inter’s quarrel with leading scorer Mauro Icardi is threatening to undermine their season. The two sides have been unable to come to terms on a long-term contract, and he has been stripped of his captaincy with manager Luciano Spalletti taking potshots at him. Icardi hasn’t played since February, and he was left on the bench in a 1-0 loss to Lazio over the weekend. It will be worth watching to see if he plays here. Frosinone will look to win at home for the first time this season, and they need a win if they are to escape relegation.

  • US Sassuolo -0.5 and -1 vs. AC Chievo Verona, O/U 2 and 2.5
  • Atalanta Bergamasca -1 vs. Bologna FC, O/U 2.5 and 3

Atalanta are now tied with Juventus as the highest-scoring team in Serie A. Alejandro Gomez, Duvan Zapata, and Josip Ilicic have combined to make a prolific trio, and they are favored to hammer a Bologna side that has allowed 25 away goals this season.
