La Liga Matchday 28 Odds

Road teams had a great time in Spain last week, combining to go 4-4-2 in La Liga action during Matchday 27. The only home teams that won were heavy favorites Barcelona, Getafe, Sevilla, and Atletico Madrid, so you could have made a nice chunk of change by betting on road warriors last week. The only road favorites for Matchday 28 are the top two teams in the league, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, while home teams are favored to win the other eight games.

Real Sociedad -0.5 vs. UD Levante, O/U 2.5

Both of these teams are likely safe in terms of relegation, but both sides are looking to stop recent skids with a victory here. Real Sociedad have lost two in a row, albeit to two of the best teams in the league in Atletico Madrid and Sevilla, after picking up a result in eight straight matches. Injuries have played a part in their recent misfortune though, and they currently have nine players listed on their injury report.

UD Levante are in a little more danger. They have lost three straight and have been shut out in their last two matches. Levante have created a number of chances in those losses though. They have had the majority of possession in both defeats and registered double digit shots too.

  • SD Huesca PK -131 vs. Deportivo Alaves, O/U 2 and 2.5
  • Real Madrid -2 vs. Celta Vigo, O/U 3.5
  • CD Leganes PK and -0.5 vs. Girona FC, O/U 2
  • Athletic Bilbao PK and +0.5 vs. Atletico Madrid, O/U 2

The best match of the day should be between Athletic Bilbao and Atletico Madrid. Both teams are known for their defense, and a draw is very much in play considering their history. Atletico Madrid have a number of 0-0 and 1-1 draws to their credit this year, while Bilbao’s 13 draws are the second most in the league.

Zinedine Zidane’s return to the Real Madrid sidelines will be the biggest story though. Zidane and club president Florentino Perez had a somewhat acrimonious split after a power struggle in the summer, but the former French national team captain is back after both Julen Lopetegui and Santi Solari failed to live up to standards. They are the biggest favorite of the week in the Bernabeu against Celta Vigo.

March 17

  • Espanyol Barcelona PK -104 vs. Sevilla FC, O/U 2.5 and 3
  • SD Eibar -0.5 and -1 vs. Real Valladolid, O/U 2 and 2.5
  • Villarreal CF -1 vs. Rayo Vallecano, O/U 2.5 and 3
  • Real Betis +1 and +1.5 vs. FC Barcelona, O/U 3.5
  • Valencia CF -0.5 vs. Getafe CF, O/U 2

The week’s best action again comes on Sunday as league leaders Barcelona take the pitch as well as many other European hopefuls.

Getafe are currently in line to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in club history, but they have a tough test on the road against Valencia. Valencia have only lost four times this season (the third-fewest losses in the league), and they will be hard-pressed to pick up three points.

Eibar will have a chance to make up ground at home against a reeling Valladolid team that have lost five of their last six while scoring just two goals during that stretch. The hosts are 7-5-2 at home this season.

Villarreal will get a chance to finally put some distance between themselves and the relegation zone too. The Yellow Submarine moved out of the bottom three with a win against Levante last week, and now they are facing a Rayo Vallecano team that have lost six in a row.
