La Liga Odds Soccer Analysis

We know that Barcelona are almost certainly going to win another La Liga title and Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid will round out the top three in some order, but there is still plenty to be determined over the last two months of Spain’s top league. The most interesting battle is between relative newcomers Getafe and Alaves and La Liga mainstays Sevilla and Valencia for the final Champions League spot. Getafe and Alaves currently have the upper hand on the bigger clubs, but whether or not they can hold on remains to be seen.

The bottom of the table is rather interesting too. Although SD Huesca and Rayo Vallecano are likely to be relegated, they can’t be counted out just yet, and Celta Vigo has a chance to make a move out of the relegation zone too. It’s very unlikely that Huesca pick up a win over Real Madrid this Sunday, but the other two clubs have a great chance to grab three points and give their chances of staying up a boost.

  • Girona FC PK -117 vs. Athletic Bilbao, O/U 2

Athletic Bilbao have been one of the hottest clubs in Spain over the last few months. They were in the relegation battle for a while, but they have recently been surging thanks to a great defensive effort. Bilbao knocked off Atletico Madrid 2-0 just before the international break, and they are in ninth place despite averaging just a goal a game.

  • Getafe CF -0.5 vs. CD Leganes, O/U 1.5 and 2
  • Celta de Vigo PK -116 vs. Villarreal CF, O/U 2.5
  • FC Barcelona -2 and -2.5 vs. Espanyol Barcelona, O/U 3.5 and 4
  • Deportivo Alaves +0.5 vs. Atletico Madrid, O/U 2

The lowest total of the season is in the match between Getafe and Leganes. Getafe have one of the top defenses in the league, and their style of play has led to them being in fourth place. They are cautious and pragmatic, and they won’t take too many chances against a Leganes side averaging under a goal per game.

The Yellow Submarine have had a disastrous season, but they appear to be out of danger in terms of relegation. Villarreal have a four-point cushion, yet a road loss to Celta Vigo would trim that number to just one. Villarreal have been very unlucky and are in 17th place despite a -4 goal differential.

Oddsmakers and pundits alike continue to discount Alaves, but the club is doing something right to be in fifth place. They have a break even goal differential, yet they continue to win close matches, so it’s a bit surprising to see them as a significant home dog, even if they are playing Atletico Madrid.

  • Real Valladolid PK -125 vs. Real Sociedad, O/U 2
  • Sevilla FC; PK and -0.5 vs. Valencia CF, O/U 2.5
  • Rayo Vallecano; PK +104 vs. Real Betis, O/U 2.5 and 3
  • UD Levante; PK -101 vs. SD Eibar, O/U 2.5 and 3
  • Real Madrid; -2.5 vs. SD Huesca, O/U 3.5 and 4

With a little bit of help, Sevilla can retake fourth place after relinquishing it following three straight losses about a month ago. Since that time, Sevilla have knocked off both Real Sociedad and Espanyol, but this is a much tougher test. Valencia have been the kings of the draw this season with 16 of their 28 matches ending in ties. They have only lost four times all season.

Rayo Vallecano have a chance to save their season against Real Betis. Vallecano are in serious danger of being relegated after seven straight losses, but Betis have been in a slump recently too.
